5.1 on ALC850, still nothing?

Hi guys, my OS X works fine, it's all great, but.... I just bought a 5.1 set of speakers to watch movies and found out that 5.1 doesn't work. So I made a research (same problem with tiger here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=15173) and saw that it's a very old problem that doesn't seem to appeal to anybody to solve it. So, that's it? It wont work?
