Please view my signature. I currently have 4GB of 800mhz but would like to max it out with 8GB of RAM, are there any issues with doing this? I remember seeing a thread saying if you had more than 4 it could cause problems but not sure, I would prefer to max it out but if it causes problems I can get by without doing that.

well current leo would not use more then 3.3 gb anyways, if i'm correct.

i've seen setups here with 8gb with no problems. but that depends on the hardware.

but what is the reason for 8 gb? power hungry virtual machines maybe, for the rest 4 gb should be more then sufficient.

You are not correct. Leopard can support up to 4TB if the hardware supports it.

I have a very similar motherboard to the OP (GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3P) with the maximum 8GB that the motherboard supports & it works fine with Leo 10.5.4 with 9.4 vanilla kernel

Because we can:-) RAM is so cheap why not? Multiple VMs or hevay useage of intensive applications like Final Cut Pro are all good reasons to max out the memory.
Im using 6gb of ram + jmicron.kext.... no problems at all :S.... Im running iatkos v4i on a Intel DG35EC motherboard with a Intel Core2Quad Q6600

If you want kernel panics then connect an IDE device or at least that is how it works with my machines, otherwise the Jmicron works fine with SATA drives in AHCI mode set for the controller in the BIOS.

Have one ide DVD burner and one ide DVD ROM ... without any problem.....

Well I did say with my machines ... I have seen others say they have no problems either but for them posts I must have seen at least hundred more with them. The solution that has worked for them me included is to not use IDE devices sometimes it is necessary to disable the controller entirely.

what about parallels? Will it allow you to give windows xp/vista 4gb?

if it is a 32 bit operating system no way... 32 bit operating systems can only address 2^32 bytes of memory which is 4gb.. but from that limit u have to substract memory for the video sub-system, audio sub-system etc. thus windows only reporting from 3.2 to 3.5 GB ram available
