enjourni
I have a Gateway M-6846 laptop running Vista x64 SP1, and I'm trying to install Leopard on a second partition (I wiped my drive and did a Acronis True Image restore from backup inside a smaller partition, which seemed to be the easiest way to leave HD space for the Mac.) I tried two different distros: Jas OSx86 10.5.4 and Kalyway 10.5.2. I can't seem to get either sound or keyboard support working at startup. Unfortunately that means I can't install - Leopard won't continue installation without first recognizing a keyboard. Admittedly I'm a noob here. I have absolutely no idea what packages I'm supposed to install to get my machine working. I respect all the work people have done here on this forum, but the process of picking the appropriate drivers/patches/kernal/etc seems extremely confusing. I ran DriverMax and SIW to try to get a handle on the specifics of my hardware setup, the results follow: [bIOS] Phoenix BIOS 95.09 [Display/Chipset] Mobile Intel 965GM Express Chipset Family (7.14.10.1437) [uSB] USB Human Interface Device (6.0.6001.18000) Realtek 5158 USB 2.0 Card Reader (6.0.6000.20099) [iDE] Intel ICH8M Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 2850 (6.0.6001.18000) Intel 82801 HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller (7.6.0.1011) [imaging] Chicony Gateway USB 2.0 Webcam (6.2.218.524) [Modems] Agere Systems HDA Modem (2.1.87.0) [Mice/Trackpad/Keyboard] HID-compliant mouse (6.0.6001.18000) Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad (9.2.3.0) Standard PS/2 Keyboard (6.0.6001.18000) [Network] Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (11.5.0.34) Realtek RTL8101E Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC - NDIS 6.0 (6.206.502.2008) [sound] SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC - STAC-9205 (6.10.5609.0) [system Devices] Intel ICH8 Family SMBus Controller - 283E Intel ICH8 Family PIC Express Root Port 1,3,6 (8.3.0.1013) Intel 82801 PCI Bridge - 2448 (6.0.6001.18000) Mobile Intel PM965/GM965/GL960 Express Processor to DRAM Controler - 2A00 (8.2.0.1000) Intel ICH8M LPC Interface Controller - 2815 High Definition Audio Controller (6.0.6001.18000) Based on this, I'm not sure what the keyboard issue is, because it looks like I'm using the default vista PS/2 keyboard driver. The wiki didn't give me any hope... the closest laptop listed is a M-6843, and it's saying built-in keyboards don't work. I hope I'm not SOL Obviously for audio I'm going to need to install a SigmaTel something. Please help? Thanks. enjourni
Well that makes two people I guess I'm wondering if it's maybe some kind of USB driver issue. Is the keyboard connected internally to the USB subsystem? What could cause the install process to miss the standard MS 6.0.6001.18000 keyboard driver? Is this the part where I start begging? iron
You'll need a USB keyboard to do the install and then replace the ps2controller with this one from here http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=831595 Chun-Nan tweaked it so it will bypass the probe check and that was the problem for Gateway laptops. Also, get his ps2nub that's in the first post. You should be good to go after that. Mine is working fine now. In regards to sound, you probably have a Sigmatel 9205, which can be patched with HDAPatcher and a codec dump after install as well. I uploaded the patcher and dump that worked okay for me. Just drag the dump text to the patcher icon and it will do the rest. If you want wireless you'll have to replace that card with something like a Dell 1490 that you can get on Ebay for $15. Just keep doing research, because if their is a fix it's probably buried someplace. It takes time and patience. DLKreations
Your AppleHDAPatcher doesn't seem to work for me. I have the same Gateway laptop, running Kalyway 10.5.2. Says the Classic environment is no longer supported. Any ideas? I should note though that the keyboard works fine, as well as the wifi with the help of using a Netgear WG111v2 USB dongle. EDIT: Got it the sound working by following this post. Thanks again for this. DLKreations
FYI - I have almost everything installed functioning as needed. I have updated the wiki for those of you who have this model laptop and would like to look at it for reference. I have placed links within the wiki to get the hardware working. http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...#Gateway_M-6846 I hope this helps.
