mcknightmare
Hi guys, I've managed to get hold of one of these much-criticised machines for a ridiculously cheap price. Previous to this I had been looking to build my own Hackintosh but am now hoping I can give this Dell an OSX makeover. I'm new to all of this, but the research I've done so far maybe suggests that its SLI motherboard could be a stumbling block. If anyone out there has got has any experience of running OSX on this machine, or has any advice as to the best approach for getting it running on the 630 I'd be really grateful. Specs as follows: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 / 2.6 GHz NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI motherboard (Dell modified apparently) Dual SLI 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT graphics card Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer soundcard Thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/121850-dell-xps-360-is-it-worth-attempting-to-hackintosh-this/ Share on other sites
erbic
While I don't have that machine specifically, I can tell you that your biggest stumbling block is going to be the dual graphics cards. I have an XPS 720, which has dual 8800 Ultras in SLI. OS X would not boot for me with both graphics cards installed. I had to physically remove one from its slot for the OS to start up. So if you don't mind losing a graphics card, you're free to install OS X on it. The nForce motherboard itself shouldn't cause many problems, though if you have any SATA drives at all you're going to need to either get a distro with MeDevil's newest AppleNForceATA.kext included or inject the kext into a disc yourself. You'll need to use either NVinject or NVkush to get QE and CI on your card. Also, there are as of yet no drivers for that Creative sound card. I THINK (not sure) that the nForce 650i has an integrated audio chip on it that can be enabled in the BIOS. My computer (nForce 680i) has integrated audio with a SigmaTel chipset; I'd expect the 650i has the same or similar. You'll need to use Taruga's AppleHDA Patcher along with a Linux dump of the card's codec in order to make it work in OS X. Look around for directions, since I'm pretty bad at giving them. So yeah. If you really want OS X on your computer, you'll need to remove a graphics card. Beyond that, it's just standard hacking and patching to make your hardware work properly. mcknightmare
Thanks for the advce erbic. Figured it wouldn't be straight forward with this machine Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/121850-dell-xps-360-is-it-worth-attempting-to-hackintosh-this/#findComment-862824 Share on other sites
outboost
Check out my sig for an example, only 1 8800 card but everything else works great. I don't use a separate audio card but that you can always worry about in the end.
