Heya all,

I have done a lot of reading over the past couple days before posting this, hoping to catch a couple clues, but to no avail as yet.

I have a mystery. I'm hoping someone can help put together the puzzle pieces I have and help complete the picture.

My machine (specs are in my sig, as always) is having a tough time with 10.4.4 and 10.4.5 installs. My latest forray is using MacOSX_10.4.4DVDPATCHED_Myz.iso DVD. It installs fine on my (nearly) Dev PC. After the install, when booting normally, it will go to the welcome music, but the video is H O S E D - not just a little tearing, but the whole screen is undiscernable - everything is just flat blocks of (wrong) colors. However, when I boot into Safe Mode, everything seemed to come up fine: video, network, apps (except no sound in Safe Mode).

Two other pieces: (1) oddly enough, 10.4.1 runs on this PC like a dream, EVERYTHING works (as well as it could under 10.4.1). (2) I have never been able to get 10.4.3 to work on this PC, no matter whose DVD was used, or which patch or whatever.

My last 3 install attemps have produced a bit different result: booting normally, it goes into the welcome movie with sound, and the video is just the big patches of nothingness (just like above); when I boot into Safe Mode, it loads most everything and then halts the CPU & shuts down.

I have tried this on 3 different hard drives. Two of them are partitioned dualBooting XP Pro and OSx86, the 3rd HD is only 1 partition with just OSx86. I have tried using standard HFS and also journaled, getting the same result. I have tried 'upgrading' the 10.4.1 installation and also a clean install, both with the same results.

At one point, I thought perhaps there was a hardware problem, so I wiped out one of the HDs and installed 10.4.1 again, and it once again, runs like it was a bonafied Mac.

I'm just not quite sure what the glitch is, and perhaps someone cann pass on a pearl of wisdom here.

Much Thanks!

BTW, This DVD installs and boots into OSX just fine on my Ath-64 laptop (HP ZV5000z) under VMware.

P.S. ~ I have the thumbnails below linked to the screencaps of what is going on with this situation - THNX!

The same happened to me with 10.4.3, but now 10.4.5 is running ok. I have no idea on what might be the cause of such behaviour.

P.S. To add a screenshot, upload the picture at, let's say ImageShack, copy/paste in your post the link from thumbnail for forums, and you're all set.

Like that

Thanks belgrano. There is a forum topic here: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=12174 about the thumbnails, as a how-to tutorial. If you or SABR or someone like that could put some detailed info, like a step-by-step for the newer forum members, that would be great. I have seen some members post really big pics in their posts, and it takes up sooooo much room.

Also, if someone (Myzar, JaS, SABR, etc.), anyone, has any ideas on where might be a logical place to find what's happening to me with 10.4.4/5, I'd be greatful for the assist.

mine is doing the same exact thing.

i have an asrock p4dual915 mobo

safe mode works just fine, but normal mode creates the same artifacts dualBooter is seeing.

I also used myzar's iso.

the original 10.4.1 dvd from last august has been working great.

if someone has any idea, please chime in!!!

Heya smiledawgg,

I have new info for you - and a success story!

Right over here: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=12538

Works great now! Apple's new EFI setup sure does make things interesting for certain BIOS setups....
