Thanks so much for this.

So simple to follow.

Everything is working 100% and faster than ever before using prepatched releases.

Even Audio Out works over HDMI now :P (Using SPDIF pass through with my graphics card).

Check out my specs in signature.

Much respect man; now I don't have to buy that EFI-X dohicky to use leopard safely and comfortably.

Hey there. I've been reading these forums for awhile, but this is my first time posting.

I followed the guide to install OSX Retail DVD on my P5E-VM HDMI setup and everything is working (even osx system updates). However, every now and then I'll wake up in the morning to see my computer has locked up with the gray screen of death.

From what I could tell in the Utility Console logs, I'm getting some weird uuid error #35. I'm at work right now, but will edit my post with info from the log when I get home.

Edit: Also forgot to note that when my install had finished and I attempted to use KextHelper to install IONetworkingFamily.kext and SMBIOSResolver.kext, KextHelper announced they installed properly and that I needed to reboot. When I rebooted, I got the gray screen of death before it could finish booting back into MacOS. The only choice was to do a complete reinstall and as of right now I've not installed those 2 kexts.

My setup:

Asus P5E-VM HDMI motherboard

Intel Q6600 quad core cpu

4GB ram

eVGA nVidia 7800 GT video card

using on-board lan and audio

WD 74GB Raptor hdd

and a couple external usb hard drives

Boot 123 CDROM with modified kexts + ASUS P5E-VM HDMI Drivers Package:

http://www.zshare.net/download/172128582e2a7354/

This is a zip file...where's the ISO?

The iso file is inside the zip you just linked. It's called generic.iso.dmg.

Ok well all devices seem to be functioning 100% after additional tests.

But for the love of pete, has anyone figured out how to fix the intermittent USB connection issue and the restart and shutdown problems that may happen once in a while? Where it will shutdown or restart OSX, but not the computer itself.

Thanks.

I got this fix from a website. this will fix the error #35

2.) Open /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist

3.) ADD AFTER <string>Ethernet</string></dict> the following:

<dict>

<key>BSD Name</key>

<string>en3</string>

<key>IOBuiltin</key>

<false/>

<key>IOInterfaceType</key>

<integer>6</integer>

<key>IOInterfaceUnit</key>

<integer>3</integer>

<key>IOLocation</key>

<string></string>

<key>IOMACAddress</key>

<data>

ABbPoF5V

</data>

<key>IOPathMatch</key>

<string>IOService:/AppleACPIPlatformExpert/PCI0@0/AppleACPIPCI/P0P3@1C,2/

IOPCI2PCIBridge/pci14e4,4311@0/AirPort_Brcm43xx/IO80211Interface</string>

<key>SCNetworkInterfaceType</key>

<string>IEEE80211</string>

</dict>

4.) IF you have more than 3 interfaces or there is an "en3" interface change it to "en4" or a higher number, don't forget to change this "<integer>3</integer>" to "<integer>4</integer>".

5.) You need to REBOOT

what is the usb issue? the only one I am having is on restart, my keyboard and mouse doesn't work unless I unplug and replug it back in. I am using logitech devices. this was after upgrading to 10.5.5, it was fine in the previous versions. it is working now- touch wood - after I have disabled legacy support in the bios.

I too am having the intermittent restart and shutdown problem. most of the time it does turn off.

The USB issue to which I'm referring is the same one you just stated. I just disabled legacy support, lets hope that solves it; I guess I just gotta keep my usb to ps2 adapter around to tweak my BIOS. I'm using the logitech G15 keyboard and G5 Mouse, if thats relevant.

If anyone has a solution to the hanging shutdown, or restart; in which the computer will not shutdown or restart (sometimes), even though OSX does close down. Please post a fix, it is really annoying.

hey all, i did nomade's directions for doing a boot-132 retail install with my p5e-vm hdmi. for some reason, my audio isn't working. under "about this mac", there is no built in audio. i also get crashes in youtube, which i think is related. any ideas?

also, is there a patch for the lan issues after sleeping?

Did anyone run into this problem? After installing the .kexts it forces you to restart the computer. However, after the restart it still has the screen:

"You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the restart button"

PS What BIOS is everyone using?

When I run the -x -v -f it looks like the problem is:

Extension "com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPPlatform" has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi componenets.

I'm trying to get away with using the onboard video. Could this be causing the problem?

Yes, when I followed the guide and got to the part where you use KextHelper to install the various .kext files, I ran into the same issue. It appears that the .kexts in the root folder of that zip file are either faulty or incompatible with my machine. I was able to install the two kext files (audio and LAN if I remember right) inside the subfolders just fine.

I followed vrsix's instructions and modified /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist, but my machine still crashes at least once a day. However, now there is no entry in the Console.app at the time of the crash. Isn't there a way to see a log for what exactly caused the crash? I only ask because not having any information to go off of makes debugging these crashes like shooting in the dark.

Most recently I've been experiencing crashes (with no log file entries) when attempting to install GTA: San Andreas over Parallels with XP Pro. The dvd-rom spins up, begins the installer, and a few minutes into the install the screen just goes gray and asks me to hard reset my machine.

@Fuz2y: Do you have issues with your osx install randomly crashing?

Meh. The directions are straightforward and I'm glad to see there's been so many successful reports, however it just does not work for me. I can get the Leopard retail DVD booted, but then while accessing the disc it will give me that damn black screen. I've got no extra hardware plugged in (PCI, PCI-e, or USB) and tried both USB and internal (PATA) DVD drives. I've also changed the BIOS settings to exactly as described.

Has anyone seen this issue? Any hints for a fix?

Thanks.

I am starting to wonder if the reason I'm getting the crashes I'm getting is due to a bad hardware configuration. I'm running a SATA hard drive as my boot drive, PATA hard drive as backup, and a PATA DVD-Writer.

I can run any application off only the SATA drive I want and the system is fine. But as soon as I start accessing stuff from the DVD writer or secondary hard drive, the system has the tendency to lock up. It works for a few minutes and then just spontaneously (and not always in the same amount of time) does so.

I've tried connecting a different PATA dvd writer to my machine with the same results. Does OSX not like having a mixture of SATA and PATA drives?

I can install OSX (retail) and I get to the part where I am adding kexts.

Everytime after I install the SMBIOSResolver.kext I get a kernel panic (screen greys out and tells me I have to restart, and never able enters leopard again until I reinstall)

Does anyone know why this is?

Exact same issue here. I skipped that kext and I've been running 10.5.x for the past month. I do get the occasional kernel panics but am unable to determine the cause.

Not sure if this is something you saw or want to try but, Nomade has a posting here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry866994

He lists the kext's he used to get a working install and in his list there is a "SMBIOSEnabler". I'm not sure what it does or if its related to SMBIOSresolver.

I only started with Kalyway a couple weeks ago and now I'm just getting into native installations so I don't really understand everything in Nomades post.

Not sure if people are still checking this thread, but a few quick questions:

1) So this install makes everything on the board work, meaning no issues with display, i.e. I could do 720p no problem, or audio?

2) Right now I have a wireless PCI card, is that something I will need to round up drivers for, or is there a wireless card I should look into?

Thanks again for doing all the hard work, and hopefully when I do this it will work great. Will be my first venture into Mac-land, but coming from semi-noobness in linux, surely I can handle it.

Hi

I have been trying to download the "Boot 123 CDROM with modified kexts + ASUS P5E-VM HDMI Drivers Package:

http://www.zshare.net/download/172128582e2a7354/", but with no success.

Is there a problem with the zshare site?

Could someone pm me the file or another link?

Thanks a million

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

not to be redundant, but i wouldn't mind getting these too.

looking around though, there are these threads with files:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...rt=#entry866994

(and they say they're old, but here) http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=73046

also, can't get the power off bug fix downloaded either. if there is anything i can do here, please let me know, but otherwise, maybe just re-posting the files on zshare or somewhere else might work better?

Hi all,

has someone be successful on downoad these files?

Boot 123 CDROM with modified kexts + ASUS P5E-VM HDMI Drivers Package:

Bios Settings: http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=3668216...f72223440f1e5d9

Boot using boot 123 modified cdrom: ( generic.iso )

I have my new P5E-VM HDMI and I'd like to install my retail OS X, can someone help me to find these files so I can follow the instructions on this threat.

Thanks a lot.

Here are the files I will use (and btw, the bios settings are just pics, so there shouldn't be an issue there):

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...rt=#entry866994

has the driver disk nomade made.

also, OSx86 Tools (which seems like a nice GUI for everything, but haven't heard much feedback on it)

http://######.com/osx86tools/

This contains Chameleon and the EFI for the graphics

and for info during install (though this install doesn't use the 132 CD), as well as the poweroff bug fix

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...oweroff+bug+fix

and the 10.5.5 combo is on Mac's site, and the driver for onboard NIC is around these post also.

I am still waiting on the retail DVD, and haven't tried any of this, but this looks like all the required pieces of the puzzle and if someone wants to chime in, thats great, since I am speaking from no experience and still don't know how its all going to work. And again, thanks to everyone for doing all of this work so far.

Boot using boot 123 modified cdrom: ( generic.iso )

once on the prompt, swap cdrom for the Leopard Retail DVD. select 9f or whatever and hit enter to boot into the Retail DVD.

Notice that Macbooks or iMacs or MacPros Leopard DVDs wont work!!! If u dont have a retail Leopard DVD download from ThePirateBay, search for: APPLE.MAC.OSX.LEOPARD.V10.5.ISO-OSX

Install

ull need after install, to boot into the OS using again boot 123 cdrom:

ull need to put boot 123 cdrom, select first hard drive and boot, and it boots into the OS

copy the contents of asus p5e-vm hdmi 3.zip to your newly installed leopard using a usb disk or pen

then after u set it up, first thing is to install Chameleon_DFE_for_Hard_Disk.dmg , u dont need to follow the readme first.txt, the extra contents are allready copied to the there, just install the Chameleon_DFE_for_Hard_Disk.pkg

then use kext helper b7 app to install all the .kext's

and EFIStudio for the graphics, select your graphics card, click on add device, then click on write to com.apple.boot.plist

and install AboutThisMac.pkg

PowerOff Bug fix: install chud then poweroff bug fix pkg's : http://www.zshare.net/download/17715797048087c7/

Open Terminal app , type: sudo nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

and add this sting:

<key>Timeout</key>

<string>2</string>

type CTRL+X and type Yes to save the settings.

Thats it! Reboot and remove boot 123 cdrom!

Not shure if you will, but if you do have problems with TimeMachine not backing up use this fix: http://tinyurl.com/3bplsb

enjoy! =)  PoWer! by Fuz2y ;)

The first 3 links you provide don't work. I've searched these threads for the last couple of days and found bits and pieces of the software needed for this board but I still have a few problems: Time Machine - which i just downloaded from the link you provided (and have yet to try) and chameleon won't boot I still have to use boot 132 disc. Thanks for all of your help!

Okay, maybe the pic link works, but that's not really all that important. A link to all of the kext files would be great.

Asus P5E-VM HDMI, working in full! with onboard video X3500, sound, LAN and so on. I ended up using a retail Leopard DVD (version 10.5.0) and the boot 1-2-3 method. All works QE and hardware acceleration. Here's how:

Short install list:

1: Install retail Leopard DVD using Boot 1-2-3 CD found here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...rt=#entry866994

2: After Leopard booted up, install 10.5.2 update

3: Install graphics update and EFI

4: Install 10.4.5 update

5: After boot, install GMA X3500 Kext found Here:http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=135360&pid=971760&mode=threaded&start=#entry9717606: If you get the light blue screen after bootup, try rebooting a second time. Somtimes I need to boot twice to get the desktop loaded.

7: DO NOT install 10.5.5 update, it broke my install every time. Bluescreen.

Thx to those who put in the hard work!

zshare sucks, can anyone upload the files on rapidshare or some other hoster?

thanks!

Sounds quite cool, but 10.5.5 can't be avoided forever. Any chances there?
