EGC
to prevent unexpected compatability issues, i disable my VIA ALC850 audio card (in BIOS) during the installation... now the system works fine but the System Profiler reported as "No Built-in Audio" after I re-enable the AC97 chip in my BIOS settings. so... is there a way to get Mac OS X recognize my sound chip? or re-install is the only thing that i can do? i tried deleted extensions.kextcache, but i didn't help... any ideas? Callysto
System profiler doesn't always show information for certain hardware at least up to 10.4.3 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/12152-re-enable-onboard-ac97-and-let-mac-os-x-recognize-it/#findComment-76383 Share on other sites
Yossarian
My OSx86 also says "No Built in Audio" under the System profiler. However, my AC97 does work. I don't think that this is necessarily your problem. Japanese_Ringo
I seem to be having the same, or a similar issue. When I installed OS X on the computer, the sound seemed to be working, because when I emptied the trash, it made the standard sound, but after I put iTunes, Quicktime, and iMovie on the machine, the sound no longer worked. Since I dragged iTunes and QT directly off of my existing Powerbook, I think that there may be a setting which got imported. Can I simply drag the AppleAC97Audio.kext off of the installation DVD onto someplace in the machine? Thanks. The computer itself is a Gateway Laptop, M520S. G_G
I can't help you. All I know is your audio chip is Conexant AMOM, which is not supported. Refer to this thread.
