Hi,

I'm a noob to PC based OS X. I have consistently gotten iAKOSv2 10.5.2 loaded, booting, and working on my dell Inspiron 1520 using the following tutorial:

However, I can't seem to get any version of 10.5.3 or 10.5.4 to work. I've tried the iakos v4i, Mysticus C* v1.4b, and kalyway 10.5.3 update. I've seen that some people have gotten the kayway 10.5.3 combo update to work with iatkosv2 base install, but I can't get mine working. Can someone point me in the right direction or tell me the exact steps I need to follow because obviously I keep missing something?

Here's my system specs:

Dell inspiron 1520

Core 2 duo 7500

2 gig RAM

120 gig HD

Nvidia 8xxx 128MB

Any help is much appreciated.

I would love for you to post the directions if you don't mind. What installer did you use?

Here are the instructions I created:

Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop OS X 10.5.3 install

1. Follow Dual Boot Dell 1520 iATKOS & XP, iATKOS v2i and Window XP instructions:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=106893

2. Use iATKOS 2.0i MAC OS X 10.5.2 disk

3. After boot into 10.5.2, download OSx86 Tools Utility:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=104754

4. Use Kalyway Combo 10.5.3 disk and follow How to install Kalyway 10.5.3 Update Without a problem! instructions:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry767680

5. Use OSx86 Tools to install kext files (that were saved above), Clear Extensions Cache and set permissions

6. Restart with "update -v" at darwin boot prompt (it will reset again before booting up)

7. do "-f -v" at the prompt and it should boot up.

By the way, I have Vista premium on my 1520, so all instructions should work for XP or vista. Also, after you follow the instructions above you might have trouble getting back into Vista. At least I did. All you have to do is repair the MBR from your Vista or XP disk. Then you will have dual boot of Mac OSX and Vista.

One other note... I was able to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.5.4 using apple software update(cool!!), however it only boots to Mac OS X if I do "update -v" everytime at the darwin prompt. Not a big deal, but if someone knows how to fix that I'd love to know.

I was browsing around and I found out that there was a 10.5.4 dvd out, so i'm just going to see if I can get that and see if that works. It should just work just the same right?

Is it the iATKOS 4.0i? I tried that one with no success. You might have better luck, but I couldn't get it to ever boot up.

Oh no.. well i guess I will get the other one as well just in case it doesn't work. What do you mean by not booting up? Like after it installed, or getting the installer to boot? and what 10.5.2 did you get the Broken Stones re-release? Thanks,

I had no problem installing it, but when I finished installation and went to boot up into Mac OSX the screen would just blink, go black, and then reboot. I could never get it into the Mac OSX desktop.

However, I would try it out and see if you can get it working. I was trying many different things at the time, so I may have been not doing things correctly. Be sure to let us know if you're successful.

Does your install work cleanly with sound and everything? I installed mac os once before and it was just such an unclean install I deleted it and re-extended my windows partition back.

The only thing I've found that I don't have is sound, but that's because I haven't spent the time to get it working. I know there are drivers out there, and on here, that can give you sound. I didn't really need or want sound. I use my Vista partition as my main OS and only use the Mac OSX for some development of mine.

With that said, I do have the wireless card, the graphics card, the webcam, and just about everything else native to my Dell working. And it didn't require any extra work as long as the directions were followed.
