livingfortoday
Ok all, first off, I'm a total n00b here, so be gentle! I'm trying to install Kalyway 10.5.2 on a home-brew C2D machine with an Asus PK5 SE/EPU board. When it starts booting from the DVD, I get the "ApplePS2Mouse: probe failed" line. After about 5 minutes, it starts saying "Still waiting for root device". I have no PS/2 port for a mouse - what can I do to move forward? I saw that you can update drivers after the fact once the install is complete, but is it possible before? Thanks for any help you an give!! ~pcwiz
When the computer is starting up, start tapping F8 and you get to a prompt. Type in -sand hit enter to boot into single user mode. At the root prompt enter these commands mount -uw / mkdir /ps2kextbackup cp -R /System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext /ps2kextbackup rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ACPIPS2Nub.kext rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/ApplePS2Controller.kext rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.mkext Then reboot and the problem should be solved :-) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/121251-ps2-issues/#findComment-858064 Share on other sites
livingfortoday
Ok, I did the F8, got a prompt, and did -s. Now it's still hanging at the PS2Mouse thing. Am I missing something? Will the root prompt come up if I wait a while? Dang, even tried the safe mode boot, since it said it would disable drivers, but after a long list of things it hung at the same PS/2 part. What am I doing wrong? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/121251-ps2-issues/#findComment-858071 Share on other sites

livingfortoday
Ok, I solved the problem in a way - but created a new one. I decided to just install Win XP to test out the system before I did OS X, and I'm glad I did, since the LAN apparently was broken on my motherboard. I went and got a new one, and ECS G31 T-M, and now it gets stuck at a different part of the boot up. That's ok, I'll do a search, hopefully there'll be answers! Thanks for all your help!
