Hellrazor978
Ok, I am designing a new a system and looking into an Intel based mobo and cpu I currently have an AMD based system and I've had good experiences with the Hackintosh setup (A8N-SLI), but I'd like to go as Vanilla as possible. I will be reusing my memory, sata hd's, ide dvd burners, case, ps, ect. (2x PCI-E eVGA 7600GT, got Triple screen working in hack already) My question is, at this very moment, which Intel based mobo and cpu combo (+efi loader) will get me Vanilla. By this, I'd like 100% compatibility of onboard options, LAN, Sound, IDE, ect. HD sound is not important, but in, out, and line are. Ive been researching the BadAxe2, but is there a better option? And what cpu, core2duo, core2quad? speed? Price doesnt matter. Thanks for the input! westwaerts
Price doesnt matter. Thanks for the input! go for a mac pro, you never get 8 xeon cores elsewhere and then you are vanilla 100% Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/121128-best-compatible-intel-based-mobo/#findComment-857229 Share on other sites
Synaesthesia
Most people say the Intel DG31PR. It's what I'm gonna buy next. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/121128-best-compatible-intel-based-mobo/#findComment-857282 Share on other sites
Hellrazor978
Money is no big deal yes. But 4G's for a Mac or less than 1G for a hack. No other recomendations for mobo/cpu? vbetts
go for a mac pro, you never get 8 xeon cores elsewhereand then you are vanilla 100% Alright, he didn't ask for a Mac. He asked for an Intel mobo that's best compatible with OSx86. It gets old when people suggest a real mac, when the op wants an Osx86 machine. If you can find one, Bad Axe 2 mobos are pretty nice. For CPU, it would depend on what your doing. For multitasking, I would go for the q6600, for overclocking, if you want a cpu for under $150, I would go for the e7200, or for a cpu that will get you a higher overclock that'll be stable, the e8500 is a nice cpu. BlackCH
Asus P5K-VM. Is what I have. Everything (audio-analog-spdif, lan, SATA ICH9, Jmicron ATA, firewire) works except integrated graphics, but you're going to add a 7600 anyway (only one PCI-E slot though). I also used to have the intel dg31pr; that one works very good too but the asus performs better. Threre are some gigabyte mobos too; I'll drop some models later Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/121128-best-compatible-intel-based-mobo/#findComment-857955 Share on other sites
Hellrazor978
Thank you vbetts and blackch for the great info, is the Badaxe2 hard to find? Also, the triple screens is a must for me, so 2 pci-e slots are a necessity! vbetts
I wouldn't say it's hard to find. It's hard to find one at a reasonable price I should say. For compatibility for osx86, the Bad Axe 2 is one of the top ones, but for the prices for one, you can also get a good mobo that's pretty compatible for $150. BlackCH
The gigabyte boards: Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3P Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P and a few more: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L (rev 1.0) I havent test those boards but by reading the specs I guess all of them will work pretty well (Im not entirely shure about the ICH9R but I guess thats working too with DUNE ICH kext). ALC889A audio is supported too (I've seen the driver around probably at taruga's forum); Also some ICH10 boards (I dont know the support status of ICH10 chipsets thou) Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3 Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS4 Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS4P Gigabyte GA-EP45-DQ6 All this boards are supported by the EFI-X dongle; so they will work the same with any soft-EFI bootlader (chameleon or PC-EFI).... vbetts
P35 though is getting on though...While it's still nice, p35 has limiting factors, like pciex16. Though, they are pretty cheap right now.
