I have an older P4P800 Asus mobo with a P4 3 Ghz

I have 3 partitions ... test and a Kalyway 10.5.2 functioning just fine but with low numbers on Xbench. I have only been able to update to 10.5.3 with Jas update and going to 10.5.4 fails.

So on test partition I've tried iATKOS 10.5.4, Jas 10.5.4 client/server and now iDeneb 10.5.4. All have installed but failed on bootup with 'waiting for root device'.

So whats the diff between my 10.5.2 which still boots and 10.5.4???

I have just 1 IDE drive and have the Bios in just P-ATA mode( have tried Sata too).

I've read about maybe its AppleAHCIPPlatform.kext but can't find it in either installation. Found an AppleAHCIPort.kext but they appear to be the same in both installs.

Anyways .. 10.5.4 seems to be introducing something new into the mix thats messing up a lot of installs ....

As an aside i am gonna update this system ... eventually .. to a GA-945GCM.SC2 , cheap D2core test bed and is supposed to work with vanilla kernel or does anyone have a better mobo idea thats sub $100.

I've had no luck getting the GA-945GCM-SC2 to run anything other than Uphuck 10.4.9.

I have a GA-P35C-DS3R that runs great with Kalyway 10.5.2, and there is a DS3L version of it that runs less than a hundred bucks, with the same support. I've seen lots of folks around here with 'em, and the DS3 BIOS runs great. I'm cruising a Q6600 comfortably at 3.15 on air on that board. (yes, I know, my signature needs some updating)

If you need a micro-ATX board, and you're only running a core 2 duo CPU, I had really good luck with an MSI 945gm3-f motherboard, running everything flavor out there for OSX86 between JaS 10.4.8 and Kalyway 10.5.2; really wonderful board, just not very overclockable, but it's fairly idiot-proof, and it costs around fifty bucks. I ran an E4400 on it at 2.15gHz, and it was zippy and really, really stable. Although my system had some problems, the other three we built are still running fantastically well, and I think my system had bad RAM. One day I'll test that theory.

The now-discontinued Gigabyte 945GCMX-S2 I built a system around for a friend runs JaS 10.4.8 really, really nicely, has great built-in audio, and allegedly takes Leopard, as well, if you go by the HCL, although I've never tried to install it on that system. I'm running an E6400 on that thing overclocked easily to 2.4 (stable), which is pretty incredible for a mother board with built-in graphics.

Also, let me state for the record that gma950 is pretty darned snappy, and I miss it on my quad-core system. (not enough to go back to it, though!)

Also, let me state for the record that Tiger is way more compatible with a broad variety of software than Leopard is. I'm only using Leopard cos I got addicted to the Bonjour network browsing in the Finder windows. I have problems. Oh, and the Dock looks really cool. ;)

thx for the various mobo results.

I suppose with 10.5.5 due soon and even 10.5.6 I may wait for them to see how well hardware support works for them

I decided to put a spare IDE HD into my P5K-E which has Invidia 8800SC 320 in it.

Both iDeneb and iAtkos installed and booted but the Jas client/server hung on waiting for root device. Also when I tried going back from iTakos to iDeneb I had to repartition the HD as it wouldn't reboot.

I am quite please with iDeneb on this rig:

8056 Marvel Lan works using the Marvel skege option

1988b audio works somewhat using the 1988 option

Nvidia 8800 works great using the Inject 320 option

Also this board works with vanilla kernel and 9.4 modbin

I had to use the jmicron and ICH 7/8/9 fix for my SATA drives to work

I also tried the 10.5.5 delta floating around despite the package tester saying no..... It crashed .... go figure .. :censored2:
