Hi all, can anyone help me with my usb problem. If I place my usb memory stick or external drive in the usb port before I switch on / boot pc all is ok.

But if I put my usb memory stick or external in any usb port once the pc has booted up none of the drives will work or mount but can be seen in system profile.

Anyone got any idea what the cause of this problem is.

Runing Kalaway 10.5.2

Asus mobo P5WD2 Premium

P4 3.2 Ghz

Cheers

I have excatly the same problem!!!

I finally got leopard reinstalled, Kallyway 10.5.1 install DVD wouldn't reinstall for some reason, so after much trying i got Kallyway 10.5.2 and that installed. I had various issues which are now mostly all fixed. However I can't get USB devices to mount unless plugged in at boot. This is crazy as it was working before.

I used Kallyways 10.5.2 default settings and install!

Just thought I would come back and give you some help. I have fixed this myself.

The problem is that by Default the Kallyway 10.5.2 DVD installs the 9.2 sleep kernal and the 9.2.2 system.ktext. Whenever there is a version mismatch between these two you will have USB problems.

If you go here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=95789

You can download the fix, simply download the installed, select customize and pick the 9.2.2 option, install and reboot.

If machine doesn't boot. press F8 and type update -v

Read the USB Thread and follow the instructions.

You dont want to install the 9.2.2 Kernel as the reason Kalyway used the 9.2.0 is to reslove issues with shutdown/sleep I beleive.

You want to run the USBFix App and install 9.2.0 System Kext and also tick remove PCGENUSB which defaults on the Kalyway DVD at install. There are a few files you have to delete and away it goes.

I have done this on two machines now. Just read the USB thread it has a full description of what to do with Kalyway 10.5.2.

Hope this helps.
