  1. OSX on HP ProBook

    Which version of the probook do you have? Is it AMD or Intel? I have a 4510s with Intel and I dont think the Wifi i broadcom I think its intel. Guess I may have to switch it out for one that works....

    If your system was working fine then started with errors even after a re-install it would leave me to suspect it may be a hardware issue. Would be worth checking RAM and HDD first. I dont believe it would necessarily be the distro you are using seeing as it was working for you before. Grab a copy of Hirens boot CD and run some tests to rule out hardware problems first.
  3. Natit for Nvidia with dual display

    Dual Display is now working with my 7300GS card!!!! It is a bit of a nightmare to find all the info you need to make this happen and it took me a while so i thought i would post up how i did it. Ok so basically after trying every option i could I found a post with a pre-made NVCAP string for the 7300GS and I grabbed a copy of Natit Dual 0.2. Search in google and a download will be there somewhere. I opened up the Natit Kext by clicking on show package contents and edited the Info.Plist with Text editor and copied this string in place of the existing NVCAP value: BAAAAAAACQAOAAAAAAAABwAAAAA= then saved and dropped the Kext into Kexthelper. Entered my password and let Kexthelper do its thing. It repairs permissions etc for you so no Terminal stuff if your a noob. Re-booted, adjusted the resolutions and cailbrated each monitor. DONE! The NVCAP string in the Info.Plist will look something like this: <key>NVCAP</key> <data> BAAAAAAACQAOAAAAAAAABwAAAAA= </data> If you dont change the NVCAP string it wont work trust me! The string is specific to 7300GS only so dont try it with another card it could cause major problems. Out of interest this is the NVCAP string for 7300GT <key>NVCAP</key> <data> BAAAAAAAAwAMAAAAAAAABwAAAAA= </data> Currently have it working with a 22" Samsung and a 19" Philips but im now off to buy a 2nd 22" Samsung! Will be great for Logic Audio thats for sure. I hope this helps someone who was in the same boat as me. If you have a different Graphics card just try searching for the NVCAP in google. Happy dual screening PS: If you muck it all up and it wont boot try -X -V at bootloader and boot into safe mode, that way you can have another go.

    Boot IDeneb 10.5.6 DVD: Drivers: selected NVkush for Nvidia Quadro 110M), Intel ICHx SATA Drivers, Sigmatel 9200 Sound. Fixes: Shutdown/Restart Fix, Seatbelt.kext, IOPCMCIAFamily, AppleSMBIOS-27 Rev3 667mhz, PS/2 Device Support, Dual CPU Fix, Powermanagement Bundle. Applications: I installed all the Apps on the iDeneb disk. Kernel: Voodoo Kernel This worked for me, however if your DELL is Intel it could change things quite a bit. Hope this helps. Sorry by Intel i mean Intel 950 Graphics.

    Ill have a look at the options I chose at install. I basically followed the guide on the Wiki for Dell D620. But didnt require the DELL post installer with this one. Ill try and get a full run down on my install asap for you.

    DentonB which distro are you running? I beleive some distros had issues with time machine that required a fix to be installed.

    Yeah im not too sure to be honest, I had troubles with 10.5.2 and there was a thread with a downloadable fix and full instructions. I would suggest hunting in the USB threads and talking to the guys that are creating the fixes. The other option is grab a copy of the iDeneb 10.5.6 distro as this seems to be the better one out there at the moment. All the options are there to do a decent install without all the hassles of patching stuff later. My shutdown/restart all works perfectly.

    I got 10.5.6 iDeneb 1.4 up and going the other night on my D620, dual boot with XP Pro. Battery meter worked with the option ticked at install, Nvidia graphics works with all functions (NVkush). Sound working fine, Wireless works as i switched out the Intel card for a DELL 1490. Both cores work fine straight after install (using Voodo Kernel). Have not tested sleep yet or bothered to get the Wired ethernet working but not really too fussed about that. The iDeneb 1.4 seems to be the best distro I have found so far, took me 6 installs to get right because of dual boot but now its works like a charm. @ optimal there is a thread regarding USB issues with older USB kexts loaded with a newer Kernel, do a search and see if that fix helps you.
  11. I dont beleive there is any installation that can configure the Bios for you. Have you tried all the usual steps to enter bios ie? DEL,F1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12, ESC, Hold down Home key? Those are the normal ones. Otherwise you could try pulling a stick of RAM out and booting it up which may cause it to halt because of the change in memory size which may enable you to get into bios.
  12. Kalyway 10.5.2 help?

    Have you tried re-burning the ISO at a slower speed? Possibly even try a different brand of disk? Is it doing this while checking the disk just before installing after you have selected your options etc? as I usually skip the disk check.
  13. Make sure you burn the ISO at a slow speed as that can cause issues on loading. Also check the forums and the Wiki as there may be settings you need to apply in Bios to get it to load up. It sounds like it is more a setting type thing seeing as you have had issues with several distros. Have you read the compatibility notes on the Wiki?

  15. How much do you trust your hackintosh?

    I have been using my Hackintosh now for well over 6 months. I trust it 100% and I use it every day as it is my Studio/Production machine. Everything works as it should all devices function as they should and its starts up and shuts down as you would expect. I am still running 10.5.2 and have no interest in updating it at this stage as the machine runs perfect. I guess its a case of 'if it aint broke dont fix it' I also run my DELL M60 laptop with Kalyway 10.5.2 but am just in the stages of sourcing a new wireless card for my new DELL D620 so I can make that a Hackintosh too. If your hardware is compatible and your install is done correctly your machine should be usable as your main computer. Just my 0.02c worth.
