Have you tried opening terminal (click on the magnifying glass on the top right), type terminal. Click on terminal. Then type:

 

sudo nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

 

It should ask you for root password and open the file for you. Then make your changes, ctrl O, enter to save and ctrl X to close.

huh? what's that going to do? how am i going to get the 9700 kext from editing com.apple.boot.plist?

i dont understand.
