EGC
Can someone pls send me a copy of the WORKING AppleVIAATA.kext ? (patched if some'one already done so, or mayb from 10.4.3?) 1. i did read the speed-bump (http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=517) thread 2. its intel only... however someone replied without a proper AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext the Intel *IDE* HD will only work on slow PIO Mode... 3. So I started to guess if i can have a PROPER appleviaata.kext i will also boost my *IDE* hard disc speed from around 2m/s 4. i did get AppleVIAATA error everytime i reboot. I don't know if its fine to leave my email address here so i didn't... but pls reply and i'll come to you MySpec: Mac OS X 10.4.5 pre-patched, ATI X700Pro Post-Patched, waiting for Widescreen support (Dell 2005FPW) AMD64 Venice 3000+ Gigabyte K8T890 VIA MB 2G DDR 1 Ram 160+160 SATA RAIO 0 (OnBoard, winxp+2003), 200GB PATA (Mac OS X) ATI X700Pro 128M Sapphire. Darth Noor
I have the same problem. 10.4.4 is very slow and does not seem to load a VIA driver. I tried using the one that came with my 10.4.3 install but that fails completely and I ended with a corrupted hard disk. :-( Did you solve the problem? bardx86
I was able to get the via ide to work. There is a fix for the error. After i ran the fix i the error went away so search this site for the error i can't remember how to do it, basically force loads the driver i believe. Then i notice hard drive access was slow, it was loading the generic ide drivers. so i deleted the driver cashe and reboot, bam hard drive transfer rates in the 40-50 bard Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/12059-will-a-proper-appleviaata-boost-the-via-boards-ide-hd-speed/#findComment-79683 Share on other sites

I checked and the driver IS loaded. Booting in the -v mode clearly shows that the driver is loaded and that the drive partition is loaded and identified. But then, as soon as the boot partition actually has to be read, the system pauses and displays a "disk i/o error" every few seconds and never recovers from it. Is this the same problem you managed to solve or where you just refering to the slow hard disk access problem which should be fixable if one loads the VIAATA driver instead of the GenericPCATA driver? axept
Hi Someone's did post a way to force it to load sudo -s cd /System/Library/Extensions/ chown -R root:wheel AppleVIAATA.kext chmod -R 755 AppleVIAATA.kext reboot note that person did not post that commands correctly and i don´t know if is ´root:wheel´ or ´root : wheel´.Just try it ! I should not give any errors.I´m saying this cos i give up using my AMD with an Asus A8V motherboard ,i only had sound on the left speaker! Let me know if it worked ,and if someone know how to fix the onboard sound on that motherboard let me know too. Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/12059-will-a-proper-appleviaata-boost-the-via-boards-ide-hd-speed/#findComment-80762 Share on other sites
Tiburon
chown -R root:wheel AppleVIAATA.kext/ chmod -R 755 AppleVIAATA.kext I believe are the actual commands, notice the "/" on the first one. I had the same pain with the driver, i ended up doing that to the kext and then removing the GenericPCATA plugin. Be careful though if you dont do it right and remove the generic plugin, you can be unbootable. make sure to use sudo to do this, or do it from single user mode. Darth Noor
In my case, it *does* load... it is just that when it is loaded, instead of the GenericATA driver, the system cannot seem to access the partition on the disk. Has anyone else heard of this problem??
