Windows04
Intro Allright, here goes. I once installed Kalyway 10.5.2 on my PC, but that was just for testing. Now I want to install Iatkos v4i (leopard 10.5.4) and I'm planning to let it stay on my computer. Here is the configuration for my pc: - Intel motherboard DQ965GF - Intel Core 2 Duo Processor - 2GB Memory - ATI X1950 pro graphic card - Intel 100/VE Ethernet card - One HDD (128 GB) with one big NTFS partition, with Vista on. I've chosen for Iatkos v4i because it has all the drivers I need and I think it's the best release if you want to have a dual boot with Vista. I've spend the last 3 days to gather as much information as possible, so don't come with: Kalyway is better or something… Goal My goal is to have a full working Iatkos v4i (sound/internet/graphics/…) in a dual boot with my existing Vista. Drivers I already have drivers for everything, but if you can give me better drivers, I'm always open for that! Asking for your help I've written my own guide and I now ask if it's going to work or if I need to do any adjustments or something. Please also read the Questions and PS sections if you want to help me. My own guide for installing Iatkos v4i on my PC 1. I have Norton Partition magic and with that I'm going to shrink my only partition (the partition with Vista on) with 64 GB. So I will have 1 NTFS partition (64 GB) with Vista on (first partition: 0,0) and another partition (also 64 GB, second partition: 0,1) and that is just unallocated space. 2. With the parted magic live CD, I will set the boot flag to the 2nd partition. 3. I insert the disk with Iatkos v4i and install Macintosh. At the "customize screen" (http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/8603/picture1od1.png) I choose these options: - Iatkos v4i Main System - Darwin Bootloader - AppleACPIPlatform.kext - AppleSMBIOS-27 6th rev Imac - Remove Thermal Kexts - ATI X1950 XT - SATA - Speedstep - Intel 100 PRO/VE 4. After the installation, I go to disk utility, select the Leopard partition and choose the option "Repair Permissions" and restart. 5. After that, I install my sound drivers (if the sound is not working of course). At my previous installation, Kalyway 10.5.2, I needed to install sound drivers. So I will just keep those ready if needed. 6. After that, I go to system preferences and set preferences for language, keyboard and so on… 7. I install VLC and I test some programs. I heard that with Iatkos v4i, lots of programs crash. If lots of my programs (like Ical, Imovie, …) do crash, I will update the AppleSMBIOS to version 28 which I download from this forum. To be more precise, from this link: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry836920 I'm not planning to update the AppleSMBIOS to version 28 if all the programs work. 8. After all these steps, another repair permissions and a restart and after that done. Post-Installation After the installation (and after I checked that everything works), I'm planning to do 3 things more. 1. If my computer is really slow and my CPU activity is nearly 100%, I'm going to delete the file AppleTPMACPI.kext in System -> Library -> Extensions. I've read on the OSX86 wiki that that could give a speedboost. 2. I've read that the people of Iatkos change the apple in the upper left corner, change the "about this mac" screen and also give another desktop than the default Aurora Desktop. So I'm going to change all of that (I've found a guide on this forum to do all of that. To be more precise on this link: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=80512 at Post-Installation). 3. I also want (but if it doesn't work, it's not that bad) to install VMWare Fusion to access my real Vista install, so I can use Windows programs while I'm still at Macintosh. That would be just great. If that doesn't work, then I will just install a new virtual machine with Windows XP on. Questions Below are some questions that I really need an answer on: 1. Do I have to chose more, less or different options at the customize screen of the Installation (See Step 3 of the guide)? 2. I've read that you need to manually install the Darwin bootloader in version 1 and 2 of Iatkos. Do you also need to do that in this version? If the answer is yes, can anyone please give me a mini guide about it. I've read a lot of guides about doing that, but I don't understand them and those guides were all about version 1 and 2. Also, if you manually install the bootloader, do I have to choose the option "Darwine Bootloader" at the customize screen? 3. Also about the bootloader: I know that I can change the timeout time in the file com.apple.boot.plist, but how can I change which partition boots automatically (after the timeout reaches 0?) Do I only need to change the boot flag to that partition? PS If you want to help me, please read the whole post. I really need some reactions on this. It's only my second time that I do this and I really want to know if this is really all going to work! If you want to help me, please answer everything in detail. I'm a real noob at this, I'm sorry about that. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/120170-iatkos-v4i-installation-need-answerstips/ Share on other sites
