Hey Sean-

I did the same thing.. well I was running 10.5.2 and let apple "update" to 10.5.3.. whoops. grey screen of death.

I'm sure there's probably an easier way, but I installed a second hard drive (we'll call it HD2). I booted from CD (Kalyway 10.5.1), and erased and formatted HD2--choosing Apple extended (journaled) format. You access the erase/format option through Disk Utilities off the CD. After I formatted HD2, I installed Leopard on that drive. I then booted from HD2 and was able to copy the programs/files etc from the original drive (HD1). After I got all the files I needed I erased and reformatted HD1 using Disk Utility. I chose to reinstall the 10.5.1 on HD1 and go through the whole process over again. Everything's back to working (except iTunes, I'm still trying to figure that issue out). Just make sure you use whatever 10.5.1 that works with your MOBO.

hope that helps.
