OK. Here it goes: I finally broke down and bought a card that was on the HCL of 10.4.4. It was stated clearly that this card worked right out of the box. $30 and 3 days later, I'm still trying to config this  network card! I have read these forums. I've read other forums. I've followed all the different directions. I've tried replacing IONetworkingFamily.kext as well as the specific Realtek (the chipset my card uses) driver (number 8169). Other people have got this card working for sure: It's all over the place.

Could someone PLEASE post clear, concise instructions on how to properly configure this card??? I'd even be willing paypal someone some money if I can just get this card working. $10 to the first person to successfully help me. ;)

Thanks,

-AJ :)

How to ask questions in this forum

http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=11517

You might get more answers if you just post your hardware and OSX install.

If you don't know your hardware, try everesthome220.exe, freeware. http://www.google.com/search?q=everesthome220.exe Use the Report-Report Wizard-System Summary only to generate a summary that you can post as an attachment. Alternatively, use Mac terminal 'ioreg -l' to see a list of devices.

Netgear should work with built-in drivers. Remove the card and reseat the card.

Check System Profiler to see if the card is recognized as PCI Ethernet card.

Go to System Preferences > Network > Network Port Configurations and Check PCI Ethernet Slot J xxxx. to see if it's activated. Then Check your TCP/IP for address and restart.

Here is my hardware:

Asus P4G8X Deluxe

Intel P4 3.06 Ghz w/HT

1 GB PC-3200 DDR

nVidia mx 440 AGP

built in AC 97 sound (works)

built in broadcom 5702 giga lan (not working)

Netgear GA311 PCI giga lan card

SONY cd-rw 52x

Pioneer dvd-rw

200 gb segate HD

I would like to get either of my network cards working in my install which is 10.4.4 HOTiSO

Is this a bad version to be using??? I've tried to boot a 10.4.3 disc with no luck. Using '-v' with it shows it get stuck at something about the power button.

I would like to use 10.4.4. I do get some error about my PCI controller not working properly. Is it possible that 10.4.4 has issues with my Asus P4G8X Deluxe's PCI controller?

I would post the boot log, but as a mac noob, I don't know where it's found. Where can I find the boot log?

Thanks so much

I typed 'ioreg -l' in term to get more information. Here is a link a to the entire output http://ajthau.com/iomesg.html

This was the most interesting part I found:

	| | | +-o ethernet@0 <class IOPCIDevice, registered, matched, active, $

| |   |	   }

pci10ec,8169

saw that information in the device manager of xp as well, so I believe it is correct.

Go to System Preferences > Network > Network Port Configurations and Check PCI Ethernet Slot J xxxx. to see if it's activated. Then Check your TCP/IP for address and restart.

I did this and when I look in 'Network Port Configurations', I see:

Built-in Serial Port

Built-in Ethernet

Built-in Firewire

Only the 'Built-in Firewire' is checked. The 'Built-in Ethernet' is not checked and can not be checked. Any ideas? :(

Thanks

UPDATE:

I have remove the 10.4.4 HOTiSO version and I put in the 10.4.4/5 install known as the MyzISO. I did installed the 10.4.5 updates. Now, my computer boots fine as before but if I have my netgear ga311 card in a pci slot or if my integrated Broadcom 5702 is enable, I get a kernel panic and can't go any further. Is it something with my hardware, I don't understand.

Thanks
