deyton Posted August 4, 2008 Share Posted August 4, 2008 I've installed kalyway 10.5.2 and have updated to 10.5.4 on my thinkpad t61. Most things are working (x3100 graphics, thinkpad wireless), but sleep is being especially annoying. It seems to sleep fine, everything turns off and the sleep LED lights up but after about 2 seconds it wakes up. Upon wake everything again works fine, which is what's really frustrating; the sleep mechanism works fine but doesn't last. I've tried searching and have seen others with the same problem, but I haven't seen a solution. I've tried every kernel that came with the kalyway install and none of them worked. I also had this same problem in 10.5.2 and 10.5.3, I was hoping that updating would magically fix it. Thanks in advance for any help. After my original post I looked in my system.log and found "USB caused wake event (EHCI)." It seems others have had this same problem, in fact I found a thread you started saying the same thing. So, what I thought to do was to maybe unload the USB kexts before trying to sleep. I was just blindly fooling around, but after many trials I found a way to make my laptop sleep properly, but with the loss of USB and bluetooth: 1. Boot up with the wireless switch turned off (which turns off bluetooth but leaves the wifi on for some reason) 2. type "sudo kextunload -b com.apple.driver.AppleUSBEHCI" It says "kextunload: unload id com.apple.driver.AppleUSBEHCI failed (result code 0xdc004002)," but if I sleep it stays asleep until I wake it! The problem is my USB ports are no longer functional and bluetooth won't turn back on. This isn't really a functional solution, but it's a step in the right direction I think. I know there are at least a few of us with nearly perfect installs held back by sleep issues, so hopefully somebody can help us out. I love you and superhai! It works if I turn off bluetooth before sleeping, and then bluetooth and USB work on wake! Also my battery meter wasn't working but I wasn't going to worry about that until after the sleep issue, but superhai has fixed that as well . It looks like pretty much everything is working on my laptop now. Thanks! I have the same issue, and it still says in my log file that usb caused wake...I installed via kext helper -> rebooted then edited the info.plist as per the instructions on superhai's readme. Rebooted, and still the same problems. Any suggestions? I know this should work. Rebooted, and still the same problems. Any suggestions? I know this should work. The only thing I did that you haven't mentioned is turn off the physical wireless switch before I put it to sleep. For some reason this switch doesn't affect the wifi in Leopard (it does in Vista), but it turns off the bluetooth. On wake if I need bluetooth if I turn the switch back on it works. deyton Posted August 6, 2008 Author Share Posted August 6, 2008 Which kernel are you using? My sleep works with vanilla 9.2.2, and 9.4 and with speedstep 9.2 I get sleep with no wake. I haven't tired any others. Another thing I did was disable all the things I don't use in the BIOS, like the expresscard slot and stuff but I'm not sure if that made a difference or not. All you had to do was copy and paste those first two lines right after those 2 lines that he stated in that existing info.plist right? Here's my log file after attempting to sleep. Hopefully I can get this sorted out...I tried uninstalling the protector suite drivers for the fingerprint reader (biometric coprocessor), and turning airport off with no luck. Now it doesn't say what causes wake. USB no longer is the cause though, so I guess there is progress. Had to delete it, and everything is working again (not sleep). Have you deleted Extensions.mkext or booted with -f? And you could always try repairing permissions. I don't really know what I'm doing with OS X yet so whenever something isn't working right I try these things a few times I've now installed the macbook SMBIOS kext and gotten coolbook working, so I think the only real difference between our machines is that I don't have a fingerprint sensor. You can't disable it in the BIOS? Hopefully there's some way around it if that is the problem.
