NomaWhite
Hi all, My setup: (2) 80GB Hard Drives, my master is a SATA and my slave is IDE. I have XP installed on the SATA drive already and I want to dual boot with OSx86 on my slave drive. I tried to unplug the sata drive and install Kalyway 10.5.1 onto the slave but the computer wouldnt recognise the drive or boot from the CD. Was I doing something wrong or is there a problem going from the SATA to IDE? Thanks. Suzie's Soliloquy
Don't have it as a slave if your other drive is a SATA. Set it to master and it should recognise. DA_SONG_MAN
My P-ATA drive is a slave and can boot. All you need to do is change the boot order of the drives in the BIOS. marklar2u
some drives/cable/controller configs are fickle: things that 'should' work don't. As mentioned above, the ide and sata drives have no relationship to each other as far as these settings. Try cable select, try master, and some had a null/default setting...try them all. Had a drive a while back that by changing the setting reduced a 25-35 wake from sleep issue to nonexistent...so strange things happen, get the manufacturers pin recomendations for the drive...they do vary by manufacturer. good luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/118904-attempting-my-first-dual-boot/#findComment-848707 Share on other sites
