Nemphys
I have installed iATKOS v4i on my Toshiba U200 notebook (Intel Centrino Duo 1.8 GHz, intel chipset, and so on). I had to disable one of the two cores to get the installation dvd going, after that installed fine. I have managed to get most of the hardware working (Intel GMA950, bought an Atheros Wifi, Bluetooth, USB, Sound - no input though, SD Card reader still not working). My main problem is that if I have both CPUs enabled in BIOS, I get TOTALLY RANDOM KERNEL PANICS at boot time. That is, sometimes (though very few), the boot process completes successfully and everything works fine with 2 cores. Most of the times, I get Kernelpanic during boot, but at totally random places: sometime before graphics intialization, sometimes on network initialization and so on. My question is: is there any Kernel that properly supports dual core processors like mine (or if it is not a kernel problem , some kext like AppleACPIPlatform, IOACPIFamily, etc) ? I have tried both 9.4.0 vanilla, 9.4.0 modbin, 9.2.0 speedstep (though I never managed to get ACPICPUThrottle to load successfully), but I always get the same problem when using two cores. With 1 core, everything is fine (except for too short battery time, because of the lack of speedstep). I find all this to be really weird because if the kernels I am using don't support 2 cores, why does *sometimes* evrything works correctly and sometimes not????? Any help would be appreciatied! (Please don't send replies like "cpus=1", this is not a solution, I want to be able to use both cores, otherwise I would get a single core machine). Thank you in advance. Gujal
It is not kernel or any kext. Some laptop ACPI implementations are incompatible (Dells are notorious), cant help it. Nemphys
So? That's it? Nothing can be done? This is difficult to accept! Somebody, please! I love Mac OSX, wouldn't want to dump the idea now that I hvae spent 2 weeks trying to get all the hardware to work... Nemphys
Never mind, found the solution. It was AppleACPIPlatform.kext after all. I just found a differentversion and after a little tweaking I got everything to work.
