Hope someone can show me, what I've doing wrong since some days...

I'm working with a 10.4.5 system native, which works wonderful. For sound driver installation, I used the AC97 kext which already worked on my 8G1111 10.4.3 system, and I'm pretty sure that after installation I had sound.

Now, some days and an ilife 06 installation later, sound is gone. The sound volume symbol in the upper left corner is still there, and I can change volume etc... but no sound. I can start iTunes and start playing, and it simply plays, but I cannot hear anything. In the system settings "AV97 Line-out" is selected.

Under Windows sound is perfect, so there is no wire hanging out :-)

Any ideas? Maybe a simple setting, cause I'm Mac newby...

Thanks a lot

Markus

Hey, you are the man :D

Thanks a lot for helping. I need some time to figure out that there are two AC97 entries in the selection box for the midi properties, one for input (where only the left side of the dialog is filled) and one for output (where only the right side is filled). Totally weird dialog :D

For me it looks like some applications (like GarageBand) switch to 6 channel mode, with channel 1 for left and channel 2 for right. Switching back to 2ch and setting it to 1 and 2 also worked, until I started GarageBand again, then there was silence again. Switching to 6ch and 3/6 as suggested in your post works in all cases, so thanks again for this!!!

One last question, if maybe someone also wants to run GarageBand with 10.4.5: with my installation GarageBands "Preferences", (Shortcut apple and ,) will not open. Is this only an issue with my installation or a general problem?

Thanks again

Markus
