I have an eVGA 8600GT with 256MB. At first it wouldn't boot at all without using:

-v -x "Graphics Mode"="1024x768"

But when I gained back the patience to properly install the card's kexts, I quickly uncovered a huge issue. QE and CI were enabled under System Profiler, but my Finder windows kept quitting on me. My Dock stayed up, but every finder window closed. I checked the Console logs, and after triggering the crash a few more times (done by opening up random folders and/or switching view modes) I got this:

com.apple.launchd[94] ([0x0xa00a].com.apple.finder[109]) Exited abnormally: Segmentation fault

The "109" varies from crash to crash, and I haven't seen it replicate itself, probably because it has something to do with system uptime. Opening other applications produces the same crash with slight differences (the program crashes instead of the Finder).

Also, I couldn't set the resolution past something like 1280x960 even though my monitors are capable of 1600x1200. And I tried out dual monitors but everything was slow to respond, what does that mean?

I'd be willing (though reluctant) to install a different kext if I had a guide specific to my video card, model 256-P2-N751-TR : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814130085

I'm quite sure the new video kexts are causing the issue because when I boot using " -v -x "Graphics Mode"="1024x768" " it works the same as it did before the installation.

Thanks, and sorry for the length!

EDIT: I wanted to add that when I first ran into this issue I tried to fix it but I thought that maybe I messed with the Extensions folder too much, so I formatted the hard drive again and reinstalled osx and the nvinject, and I still have the same issue. Also, using Disk Utility to repair the disk doesn't work. It detects a whole slew of errors on the drive but when I go to rescan it, none of the errors have been corrected. Should I try to repair using the install disk? Do I just not have sufficient rights to repair certain folders on the drive from my admin account? Also, I'm using the DVI to VGA converters that came with the card, I don't know if that matters.

I have not used Marvin's AMD utility. I was using Zephyroth's 10.5.1 for AMD and Intel, and the other distributions I have used didn't work right either. But I've been told that "Leo4allV3" will work great with my system by somebody with the same motherboard and basic setup as me, so I downloaded it. I'll be away from that computer for the next couple weeks, but when I get back to it I'll definitely post here for anyone that has this same issue. BTW, it seems Leo4all is the most complete distribution of osx86.

EDIT: I just googled "Leopard finder unexpectedly quit" and this thread was the first result. But after that comes THIS which says:

"Addresses an issue in which Finder could unexpectedly quit when displaying folder contents in Column view.

Addresses an issue in which Finder could unexpectedly quit when accessing Users and Groups in a Get Info pane."

Every distribution of Leo I was able to get working was 10.5.1...I think leo4allv3 is 10.5.2 or later, so I'm very excited! Too bad I'm not going to have internet for quite a while ;) All this work and I'll still need one more thing :P (anyone have an extra $30?)
