Elfenlyte
My friend has a Dell Precision 670 with 2.8 Xeon processors. We're thinking about turning it into a Hackintosh. I read in the Wiki that the '670 successfully ran Leopard. There are two things that I am going to try: - iATKOS 4i - Vanilla install w/ retail DVD What one is more likely to work? Is a chance neither will work? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/118390-x86-on-dell-precision-670/ Share on other sites
z3roeffect
Hey I have a precision workstation 670. I installed iatkos sucessfully on it but it took me 2 days to figure it out because i ran into issues thru trial and error. USB works and video even tho the video looks good its not fully capable so it needs the right iatkos driver for it (nvidia nvs 280) which i cant find anywhere. and also the network doesnt work like ethernet. so i switched to the usb for the internet. I used iatkos 1.0i R3 so i dont know about iatkos 4. let me know if it works for ya. my main issue is video and ethernet drivers right now. oh and my sound works because i got a M-audio external usb sound interface. and they have a mac driver for it hehe Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/118390-x86-on-dell-precision-670/#findComment-839744 Share on other sites

Elfenlyte
Thank you for the replies. I went with ATKOS4i and then came across this problem. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=118496 I suppose the bootloader is just not there... did anyone else come across this? z3roeffect
ok what i did to install on my 670 was to make sure you set the drive active. (bootable MBR) to do that u can use "Gparted" its a free program u boot it from a burned cd. or if you are able to boot iatkos setup from your cd. go to the install and go to terminal in utilities. and type when i put _ those mean spaces so dont put _ in terminal put a space. fdisk_-e_/dev/rdisk0 then press enter then type flag_1 (or which ever number ur mac is installed) then type update, press enter after that type write then press enter and type y enter and restart comp. then take out the cd. when ur at the boot loader screen in the countdown press f8 and then type cpus=1 -x or just -x if that doesnt work type -f or combo of -f and -x those will take u to safe mode if it works. also when you install dont choose anything in the customize list just install iatkos the 2 remove thermal heat things and the bootloaders and efi. just that. coz so ur install can go smoothly then after u install u can pop in the cd and add one by one. but also uncheck iatkos so u can install the extra stuff seperate.
