verdee
So my parents just got an imac, and I would like to use their old Dell Dimension 4550 as the basis for a hackintosh. The purpose of the computer would be mainly for ripping DVDs and storing the itunes library I have synced to my apple tv. The specs for the Dell can be found here.I am curious what I could reuse and what I would need to get replace. Obviously I would need a new motherboard, CPU memory and video card. But could I reuse the case, optical drives, and hard drive? Just need a little guidance in buying and such Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/118286-os-x-on-dell-dimension-4550/ Share on other sites
mistry
wow lucky you ur parents got an imac woop! Erm I also have a 4550; you really can get it to work out of the box. The sound is a bit iffy wihtout the right drivers, but it is risky. You can reuse virtually everything; the graphics card works great (i have 32mb agp crapcard) but still requires a lot of patience. Good luck! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/118286-os-x-on-dell-dimension-4550/#findComment-858810 Share on other sites
