hi osx'ies :D

i'm trying to install osx on my pc now for about 3 weeks and i didnt managed to run it til now so the last thing i wanted to try is that i'll ask some experts here at IM.

i tried leo4all v3, kalyway, iatkos v4.0i and the boot-132 method with the leopard retail version but nothing worked so far. on kalyway and iatkos i get the same error of "Still waiting for root device" followed by "IOATAController blocking bus."

so i tried leo4all which seems pretty good so far. i get into that os x installer and i could run the disk utility and all that but after some time the installation freezes. i could move the mouse but nothing more would happen.

last but not least i tried the boot-132 method using the leopard retail version. in that case when i am at that "boot: _" prompt i hit enter and it gets me to the screen where i have to enter the two hex digits but nothing happenes except i use 9f (which is the CD/DVD drive - i read this before ...) after i hit enter again and use -v -f and -x at the boot: prompt i end up with that screen:

(this is the screen about the two hex digits)

and this is where i end up after i hit enter at that screen:

and my pc reboots after that screen...

i hope you guys have an idea :)

here is my sys:

you have a similar setup to mine. i have a p5n-e sli board with sata hd, dvd, and bluray. a problem i ran into during instalation is with the sata drives. disable them in the bios and boot off of an external cd drive and then see what happens. once the install is done you can enable the drives againa and you will be able to use them. if possible, get an IDE hard drive and install on that.. it will make your life easier.

the only thing i cannot get to work is the ethernet. i have yet to figure this out so if you somehow get it to work please let me know!!

Have you checked out the excellent threads by Mysticus C* for Intel CPUs and nForce chipset MOBOs:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=87901

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=109102

If you follow Mysticus C*'s guides carefully they should get you going OK...his guides and updater packages have got me up to running 10.5.4 on a 650i MOBO with a Q6600..... ;)

But if you need further clarification on each step read the install guide in my blog......other forum readers and members have posted saying that it helped them install OS X successfully....

Your on-board LAN will not work properly (onboard LAN on a MOBO may or may not work - it all depends on the MOBO specs; e.g. the onboard LAN on my Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus MOBO does not work under OS X)....hence the Netgear GA311 Gigabit LAN PCI card (RealTek 8169S chipset) card I have installed as stated in my signature and blog.

See http://sourceforge.net/projects/realtekr1000/ for the R1000, which is an opensource driver for network controllers RTL8168, RTL8111, RTL8169, RTL8101 and some others modification for Mac OSX. It is based on Realtek's driver for Linux but is not supported by Realtek.

Also see http://www.psystar.com/realtek_r1000_driver.html

Psystar have released a modded driver based on R1000 claimed by them to enhance

the interrupt handling and link detection for these NICS: RTL8168, RTL8111, RTL8169, RTL8101.

So get hold of a Realtek chipset based PCI Netwok Card i.e. RTL8168, RTL8111, RTL8169, RTL8101 chipset card....check card specs before buying....depending on the card used it may just work out of the box with the already installed drivers in OS X...

well i tried mysticus tutorials but it always ends up with that "Still waiting for root device" thing... i really dont know how to install osx on my sys :D

From the Mysticus C* guide:

5-a-) If you see an error message saying "SAM MEDIA READ / WRITE failed and continued with Still waiting for root device" or something similar during the DVD boot, it means nforceata driver that is supplied on this DVD is not compatible if you used a SATA DVD Drive, which means you will have to exchange it with PATA (IDE) one.

5-b-) If it just says "Still waiting for root device" it is your SATA HDD, is not recognized due to missing DEV ICE id or incompatibility as the SATA DVD drive. Fixing this involves two installations and some editing, no direct solution unless you inject edited nforceata driver to the DVD.

Your problem may be due to using a SATA DVDRW?

Have you set your BIOS to AHCI mode?

You can try following my blog carefully for either kalyway 10.5.2 or iATKOS v2.0i.....it has helped others with the nForce 680i chipset MOBO..... :)

first of all... thank you for your quick reply haxi and that you're trying to help me :D

at bios i cant chose something like AHCI. i also find nothing about AHCI :/

Check in BIOS for SATA options.....

ah at SATA-configuration i got this screen here:

IMG_00183ZFx.JPG

That should be OK......now just see what following my blog guide enables you to do....do you have Kalyway 10.5.2 or iATKOS v2.0i?

i have em all^^

i have leo4all v3, kalyway 10.5.2, iatkos 4.0i and the leopard retail version for that boot-132 method. and when i tried leo4all the installation booted. and i get to that graphical installer of osx but after some time it just freezes  sometimes even when it boots up

edit:

do you have icq or something?

i have em all^^

Have a go with Kalyway without installing any video and audio drivers from the DVD Customize menu and by booting from the DVD with cpus=1 maxmem =2048 -v and see if and where the system freezes during install and/or booting without the DVD after install......as in my blog guide.....others are having problems with iATKOS v4.0i......

allright i tried kalyway with cpus=1 maxmem=2048 and -v . but this is where i end up:

IMG_0019EjGV.jpg

i also mentioned after i reset my computer the dvd drive is some kind of "deactivated". i cant eject the cd until windows booted up.

at leo4all v3 its only a matter of time i think. it sometimes freezes at the bootup of os x and it sometimes freezes during the installation.

It kind of suggests that your SATA DVDRW may be causing some problems.......e.g. from Mysticus C*'s nForce + Intel install guide:

Note: Some People may have issue with DVD stop reading after a while, this is nothing to do with this DVD, but it s related to nforce chipset, after 5-7 mins DVD drive likes to sleep :( and cannot wake up... weird enough, to avoid this from happening, move your mouse around the screen every 3-4 mins... trust me, it is the only way at the moment...

Also seen this on another forum on installing OS X using iATKOS v1.0i

The DVD boot procedure ended up with "Still waiting for root device"

Last real message is "IOATAController device blocking bus"

My test-hardware: Gigabyte mainboard: GA-81945GMH-RH with SATA disk and SATA DVD player.

Note the MOBO is different with Intel chipsets.....

Can you borrow a PATA DVDRW or DVDROM to re-try the Kalyway install?

leo4all works so far ;)

can i install and uninstall nforce drivers after os x is installed?

btw: thanks for your great help haxi! this mouse moving thing worked ^^

Glad to help..... ;)

You can install and remove driver kexts and kernels......generally removal via Terminal.....but can also use tools such as Kext Helper b7 to install kexts......or OSX86Tools to install kernels and kexts plus more.......which specific nforce drivers you mean?

ah damm i installed leo4all... but when i eject the cd to boot up i get a black screen with the line: "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" error.... what now? :/ damn

Messed up EFI bootloader.....?

i just put in the dvd booted from it with cpus=1 maxmem=2048 and -v and costumized the installation... i also used disk utility to format the partition to mac(journaled)... didnt changed any option that is about EFI Oo i also didnt found one and under "Costumize" the checkbox at "bootloader" was checked

There would be a bootloader option but maybe greyed out?......sorry I have not tried Leo4All v3 or v4 myself yet.....my personal hands-on experience is with Kalyway 10.5.2 and iATKOS v2.0i 10.5.2.......

yea it is greyed out but checked.

So it should have been installed OK according leo4all forum:

Bootloader:

This option is checked and greyed out by default. It is Dense's script to install EFI and make the partition active. If you already have an existing bootloader (like from Vista) on the same logical drive it will not overwrite it. It will however flag the partition you installed to active, so you will have to manually set your Windows partition active again if needed.

ah allright then... but do i have to leave the disk inside the drive? i mean i read that i should eject it after osx is installed Oo

You should be able to but with some distros/PCs some people find that they can only boot with the DVD left in.......are you dual booting with another OS?..........are you sure that the OSX internal HDD is set as the boot volume in your BIOS bootloader menu (F8)?......

Try using OSX86Tools to re-install EFI bootloader........

i ran over something at the leo4all site that i have to enable the partition as the MBR. i'll try that.. but tomorrow. its pretty late here in germany and i have to go to bed. but thank you very much haxi. you were very helpful

I thought you had seen about MBR in my blog......so had assumed you had partitioned/formatted your OS X install volume as MBR and Mac OS Extended (journaled)...... -_-

Sleep well...... :) and then try Kalyway again as in my blog with MBR and moving mouse about during install etc..... ;) I wish you success anyway with whatever OS X distro you can get working for you...... :)
