iCal crashes/doesn't start

Hi everbody,

 

I installed iATKOS 4i yesterday on my computer (P4 3GHz SSE2, 80GB SATA + 160GB SATA, 1024MB RAM, GeForce FX 5600, Asrock P4i65G). Everthing is working fine, but I can't start iCal. The icon keeps jumping up and down for some seconds and then I get an error message which says something like 'iCal quit unexpected...' and I can choose between restart, report or ignore.

So could somebody tell me how to fix this error (or even how to reinstall iCal)? I'm not that experienced with OSX so I appreciate any hint which points me into the right direction.

to reinstall, simply drag the Ical icon (its whole APP ) into trash can, thats uninstall for you, now download iCal from somewhere and install it again, i could not find it at Apple.com sorri.

 

 

BTW me too new at this, maybe some with better answer might reply.

After doing some search I found an ical.pkg on the Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD. So I deleted and reinstalled iCal... with little success. iCal starts, stays open for around 3 seconds and crashes with the same error.

 

Any other suggestions (thanks krrr anyways)?

Yes it does, but you have to use the ToH kernel which is included in the DVD

I installed the SMBIOS kext provided in the linked thread but unfortunately that didn't help at all. Actually it got much worse, because OS X wouldn't start afterwards. Additionaly the time machine restore didn't work either so I had to reinstall the computer. By the way... does time machine backup the kexts?

 

Whatever... even after a clean reinstall iCal doesn't work.

 

Here're the options I selected during setup:

 

- unchecked Darwin for pc-efi

- checked ToH kernel

- checked Darwin for mbr/non efi

- remove thermal kexts

- VGA: natit v0.2

- system: SATA support + NTFS3g

- LAN: nothing since my wireless card is fully supported

This is a problem that came up with iTunes on Tiger.

 

The first few releases of Tiger came with iTunes that worked on SSE2, but at some point it stopped working. The workaround back then was also to run it under Rosetta.

Basti756, I do appologize for the AppleSMBIOS.kext that I posted, It was an SSE3 only kext, I had understood that it was for both SSE2/SSE3. As far as backing up kext's, you should always do this.

From a terminal so you can recover by booting off the dvd I would do the following:

sudo -s

cd /System/Library

tar cvpf extentions.tar Extentions/

(don't use z or j or other compression, cause unless you chroot your install off the boot dvd tar does not have the bzip or gzip compression support when booting off the dvd).

To Recover your Extentions:

sudo -s

cd /System/Library

rm -rf Extentions/ Extentions.mkext

tar xvpf extentions.tar

 

It sounds like eugmoon found a good solution using Rosetta, and it also seems like people are having troubles getting 10.5.4 working w/ SSE2 with a lot of other things as well.
