I am running on a Dell Dimension E510 on Kalyway Leopard 10.5.4. I used a regular 10.5.2 install disc and then the 10.5.3 combo update provided by Kalyway. I then updated to 10.5.4 via Apple Software Update. I now need to press F8 and type update otherwise the system loops a reboot. I tried putting the command into Kernal Flags under com.apple.Boot.plist and it doesn't work. I still must do it manually. I wouldn't mind this except for the fact that this is the computer my sister uses and she wouldn't know how to do it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hmmm, are you using a vanilla kernel or other? I am using kernel_vanilla with SMBIOS-27-default. Installed Kalyway 10.5.2. Ran the 10.5.3 Combo update and installed kernel_vanilla 93. Rebooted and ran update -v. System booted up fine. Ran Apple update and installed 10.5.4. Rebooted. System boots up fine. Not problems. Only problem I have with the vanilla kernel is the system doesn't restart or shutdown properly. I have to use the reset button to restart. If I could find out how to fix that problem I would be golden. Installing anything other than the vanilla kernel seems to break my USB EHCI and I can't mount my external flash drives.

Nope, I use sleep kernal I think. Truly I have no idea. Restart works fine as does Shut Down. Its just that one thing with startup. Not that I mind but my sister would never remember and she uses that PC.

I am having the exacpt same problem. But we don't seem to be the only ones. There are several post out there but still no solution

Hi @ all,

I found a solution for me.

I used OSx86Tools to install a new kernel and now everything works

For me it was modbin-kernel

Good luck

Im reinstalling Kalyway 10.5.2 due to messed up 10.5.3 combo update. Im new to OS X in general so Im having some issues. The readme says not to restart but OS X is forcing me to restart. Am I missing something here? I install 10.5.2 and all seems to work fine except intermittent usb functionality with my iphone. Then ran the combo update and I didnt click anything, the screen just pops up a warning telling me I must hold down the power button and restart. I cant move the cursor or anything. Basically the entire system locks up. Is this normal? Not trying to hijack this thread for an older combo update just fig I need to get to 10.5.3 before I can update to .4. Im reinstalling using the vanilla kernel(core 2 duo proc) so hopefully it will at least boot into 10.5.2.

EDIT:

Got it working. Had to start both installers, kernel updater waited till combo update was complete, then kernel kicked in. Restart= update -v, all worked well. No vid issues or any other problems that I could find. Updated via apple update to 10.5.4, = update -v, = back to 9.2 kernel. Not sure if I should run the kernel updater again. Currently on nforce kernel w/sleep disabled (dont use it anyways).

EDIT2:

Ok, had to rerun the kalyway kernels. Only way it would boot was to "update -v". Now it restarts normal and SUPER fast boot.
