Hi, I finally got OSX (Kalyway 10.5.2) to install on my Skulltrail system (I've got 2 8800GTs in SLI and had to remove one to get OSX to install properly), I already had Vista x64 installed on a separate hard drive but I can't, for the life of me, get a menu to let me select between them.

If I unplug one drive then the other will boot fine but no menu with both drives plugged in.

I tried using EasyBCD to set up a menu but it won't work, presumably because I need to copy the "CHAIN0" file over to my vista hard drive. I can't copy it over because Windows does not see the OSX hard drive as a valid hard drive so does not display it in "My Computer", If I have both hard drives plugged in then Windows boots but not OSX.

I was gonna copy the file to a third drive but although when I'm in the OSX install I know the file is supposedly in " /usr/standalone/i386" but I cannot find that in the file browser and it doesn't show up on the dvd, see below :

How do I do this? :(

Help please?

This was all with Kalyway 10.5.2, I'm just about to try installing the iAtkos v4i and see how I get on with that but I'm guessing I'll have the same problems.

EDIT : Well I tried the new iAtkos v4i and it doesn't even boot up, it just sits at the selection screen.

Anyone fancy giving me a link to a copy of the CHAIN0 file from the Kalyway 10.5.2 release so I can stick this in my C drive?

I used the method described here, namely :

1. I have XP installed on one SATA, formatted as MBR

2. Kalyway 10.5.3 installed on another SATA formatted as GUID.

3. Copy the file boot0.gpt (in the file enclosed) to windows C:\ drive

4. Add a line in boot.ini :

c:\boot0.gpt="Mac OSX Leopard"

(You may try boot0 for MBR -OSX. or boot.efi if boot.gpt does not work)

Although instead of editing the boot.ini because, of course, Vista does not have boot.ini, so you need to do the following :

(This worked for me with each OS on a separate drive - Vista was on the first drive (rdisk0), so the first sata slot on your mobo should be Vista)

Download the attached zip file and unpack it to a floppy, usb drive or somewhere else, you will find three files inside, you need the boot0.gpt one.

These are the instructions for installing both operating systems from scratch (i.e. both drives empty)

  1. Install Vista as normal. Restart to make sure you can boot into windows normally
  2. Insert the Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD
  3. Install Kalyway 10.5.2 as usual (formatting the drive as GUID), take a note of which drive your Vista is installed to (Disk Manager will tell you), then reboot with the disk still in.
  4. Press F8 at the disc's Darwin Prompt and type -s
  5. At the single user prompt, type these commands exactly:

    fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0
Specifies the disc that you have Vista installed to
The specified location rdisk0 may of course be different if Vista was installed on a different drive, e.g. rdisk1, rdisk2

    flag 1
Marks Vista as the active partition (assuming it was installed on the first partition of that particular disk)

    quit
This will quit fdisk and take you back to the normal single user prompt

    reboot
Your machine will reboot again, take out the Kalyway DVD before booting up.

  6. Make sure Vista boots up again as normal
  7. Copy the boot0.gpt file to your Vista's C: root (i.e. C:\boot0.gpt)
  8. Go into cmd (Windows Key + R then type cmd), then type the following (Words in italics should be replaced, any others should not) :

    bcdedit /copy {current} /d "Mac OS X"
You can choose any label you want within the quotes, copies information from Vista to use as basis for Mac OS X Boot Loader

    bcdedit /enum active
Enumerates the selectable OS' from Vista's Boot Loader

    bcdedit /set {YOUR-GUID-HERE} PATH \boot0.gpt
Replace {YOUR-GUID-HERE} with the ID that is listed for Mac OS X under the enumerated list, do not replace the word PATH
  9. Restart the PC and make sure you get a menu, then try selecting each option and make sure that OS loads up

Hope it all works for you as it did for me.

boot0.zip

I just noticed this is 32 bit, is there any kernel on the Kalyway 10.5.2 that is 64bit? (I did read this post but it doesn't actually say which ones are 64bit).

I ran geekbench on it, here are the results. Seems the best results are running 64bit, just gonna install new waterblocks on my CPUs soon so I can overclock to 4GHz each core and be among the top results ;)

I am fine to use BCDEDIT AND/OR EASYBCD to have my MAC OS to boot up on my Vista bootloader menu.

apart from sometimes, it stacked a bit, nothing wrong, I guess it is because the KEXT problem, I need to install a better one for boot up from Vista..I guess

I have tried both IATKOS V.2 and V4i
