1.44 floppy / multi card reader

I have a all in one 1.44" and CF SD MMC MS SM card reader

 

When booting and going to about this mac > USB it shows up as winter ver 1.3 under USB 2.0 if I insert a card it does not show up as a disk drive , to make it work I need to remove the cover unplug the USB lead then attach it to another port

 

GO > View > Refresh, now the device is shown twice under USB 1.1 and 2.0

 

I then can insert a card and access that drive

 

I also have a Creative jukebox zen USB 2.0 plugged in but it is only ever shown as 1.1

 

Is there a work around for this problem

 

Also I can not see the floppy 1.44 drive at all
