I'm going to upgrade my memory. I wanted to ask if there is any benefit by buying ram that is a little more expensive ,same specs, from corsair, kingston, mushkin etc... or buying a bit cheaper ram from Crucial. Is there any difference in performance or is the minor price differences purely brand based? Thanks

Difference's are based on the latency of the chips used... I've used mushkin & corsair value, both seems good enough... I'm not sure on the MBP but on Macbook X3100 it's still detected as 667... So meaning if you buy a lower latency ram at 800mhz if clock is used at 667 it's latency is much lower but bus speed is the same...

Simple benchmark you can try to do is :- openssl speed (it will test openssl calculation speed). So compare it before and after if theres any changes... :)
