Hi, im running 10.4.11(kernel: Darwin 8.10.1, no EFI) and i want to ask which updates are save to install on this setup.

In the Software Updates List are several Updates for Single Programs (iPhoto, Quicktime, iTunes, Airport, Safari) not all need a restart, and a Security Update 2008-004 (Intel). The Security and the Safari Update is what i am most intrested in.

Are those updates save to install, both need a Reboot...

Thanks!

Most of those are safe but if I remember correctly the security update has a new loginwindow.app, smbfs.kext, and iostoragefamily.kext. So you'll want to back those up before the update just to be safe. The new loginwindow.app caused an AboutThisMac crash for me, so I had to replace it with the old one (which is the really old one from like 10.4.5 or something) and all was well.

If you really want to be safe, the best way is to open the update packages (once downloaded) with Pacifist, then you can see exactly what gets updated and what you should backup.

There might have been something in the Airport update as well. I guess I'm not much help  Sorry I can't be more specific but it was a week ago or so I think. Maybe someone has a better memory than me.
