blackentangled
use disk utility to format your hd first so that your hd will appear as installable. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11562-1045-not-seeing-my-hd/#findComment-72700 Share on other sites
Waka
I've got the same problem. I've put an old disk that had Mandrake on it. If I reformat it with Partition Magic, will that do the job? Thanks, W. belgrano
To successfully install osx, you have to make only primary partitions on the hdd... not logical, osx hate logical partitions. Yeah, you can use PM. Here's how I installed 10.4.5: I used PM to make an unformated partition (I say again, primary, not logical!), then I used 10.4.1 or 10.4.3 disc to format it as hfs+, then I placed in the 10.4.5 disc (the patched one, of course), and continued with the installation. Waka
I've only got the 10.4.4 patched to 10.4.5 dvd. Does the hard disk have to be formatted to hfs+ to install osx - or can the install do the formatting automatically? Coz I assume PM won't format to hfs+ and the OSX DVD can't see the disk to use the utilities. :-( Thanks for the reply belgrano - sorry for hijacking the thread alextait - but I assume these answers help you too :-) W. belgrano
I don't think PM can format correctly a disk as hfs+, use it only to make the unformated partition. I believe the disk (partition) must be formated as hfs+ prior to installation, so that the installer can see the partition. But you should be able to use the Disk Utility from installation dvd to do that. Though I don't recommend you to use Disk Utility from 10.4.4 (5), as I understood it will completly screw the other partitions from that hdd (it will format the disc to be available for EFI). That's why I used 10.4.3 DVD to format the partition. Anyway, maybe somebody can confirm this... The fact that you can't access your hdd in Disk Utility from the OSX DVD is another issue. Maybe you should change some things in the bios setup (I disabled all unused ATA and SATA slots). Also I have the latest bios version (try updating yours!). If you have more than 1 hdd, unplug all of them, except the one used to install OSx86. blackentangled
if you want to format it correctly in windows don't use PM, instead, use diskpart and format the partition to "af" and remember to not use extended partitions. search the wiki for instructions, it's in there...
