i did some research, and it sounds like the NVRAM just needs to be reset? If this is the case, and there's not some deeper hardware issue, this might be worth it for me.

 

Opinions? I'm very unfamiliar with Open Firmware!

Something like this happened to one of my old G3 iMacs. I couldn't boot to a CD or anything. What I finally did was boot to Target Disk Mode and install something from there. From then on it has worked forever.
