I wanna get a portable HDD. I have my old original MacBook HDD, but 110GB isn't enough to do anything with. I want to get a 500GB cause I still don't have the cash to throw down on a 1TB. Anyone have any recommendations? I'm not worried about a budget. Just recommendations. I'll worry about the price once I get a couple HDD to look at. Personally I was looking into this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822136080 but I'm not sure if it's the shizzle or not.

1) Buy a 500 GB HDD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822136073 -75$

2) Goto Dealextreme.com - Buy an external enclosure - http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.7917

or even a PMP http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.9140

Result same HDD, same quality, same speed. Much cheaper

Sounds great. I had a WD Passport 120 gb for a while and it's great at all!

I found this very funny, scroll down the page and you'll see that LOL

Omg, that's very bad! Anyway, Vista is officially bloatware in my mind. Just a GUI crappy and shiny holy OS.

For 100$ extra you get a Vista Prenium SP1 OEM DVD. Very funny fact :P

I agree with UC- getting the drive plus enclosure is the best way to go.

What system(s) are you planning to use the drive with? I'd advise pick an enclosure that has all the connection options you need. IE: whatever combination of USB 2, Firewire, external SATA, even Ethernet, as the systems you'll use it with, and in what capacity you'll use it. These days it amazes me how cheap the enclosures are, and the pre-built ones usually seem fairly stingy by comparison.

An enclosure like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817347017 has the 3 major external connection types, doesn't have too terribly huge of a power-brick to lug around with it (one 'gotcha' a lot of these things have) and even manages to look pretty darned spiffy.

I did price comparisons with everything you guys posted and the HDD and case U.C. linked to comes out not even that much more, and it's a better drive. The case that Zaap linked to is cool cause it's got all the connections, but it comes out a bit more. I guess I'm just gonna go with that one since I have so much {censored} that connects to my USB ports and I don't have a hub.

By the way Zaap, I'm mainly going to be using this drive as media (movies, tv shows, music) storage on my MacBook. But it's going to be formatted Fat32 just incase I have to bring it over to a friend's house and use it.

Thanks for the help guys.
