tungtung
I'm just wondering, for those who have used the Intel Atom board for their hackintosh project, how smooth is the system? According to most benchmark the Atom is only about as powerful as the old Celeron systems, but I found one comment somewhere through google that the Atom is about as responsive as the old G4 are. I'm honestly whether getting this Atom board is a good option, or if I should spend a bit more and get a regular low end Core2 system, cause I'm planning to get a real Apple system later this year (most likely either a Macbook or the Macmini if it gets updated) - so I would take any saving I can get toward the purchase of the Apple system as I could. My build will most likely based on the Atom coupled with a single stick of 2GB DDR2 and a standard 7200rpm SATA drive. Application will mostly just web browsing and word processing application. Synaesthesia
I think it's great, the performance is certainly good enough for general usage, and the value is good too. You can alternatively get a $50 motherboard and a processor for $40 Celeron 420/430 that's quite a bit faster. The E2180 for $70 is very fast dual core cpu and is still cheap. Either way, it's looking good to be a consumer right now! UnaClocker
If you are going for low cost, you really should go the next step up this ladder. It's true, I would compare the performance of this CPU to a G4. I built it for electricity savings. Over the long haul, even with it's 25+watt chipset, it will save money. Sadly, I think my old Intel Mac Mini drew less power than this unit does. But a Mini is still worth $500, whereas I built this for less than $150. And, this MiniITX motherboard was finally a good fit for my G4 PowerMac case..
