random freezing / crashes on 10.5.3

hi folks,,,

 

i've recently updated my kalyway 10.5.1 dell vostro 1500 to 10.5.3 with kaly update.

 

also did exactly the same procedure on my desktop setup, which is working a charm.

 

 

the problem is, the laptop freezes (mouse pointer will move, but that's it), and it seems to be completely random.

 

for example, it happens sometimes just surfing,,,,or mid youtube video, or whilst listening to itunes.

 

 

theres no real pattern, and it isnt necessarily to do with heavy loads, or graphics processing or anything like that,,,,

 

 

 

can anyone think of a plausable explaination?

 

 

hardware is as follows.

 

core2duo 2.2ghz

 

2x2gb ddr667

 

onboard nvidia 7600gt 256 mb (nvinject qe+ci)

 

onboard simgatel working with paulo-131

 

the only installed software is protools, but the crashes occur with no digidesign hardware connected,
