I recently installed Vista on my system to check it out. I removed it two days later but the OS left some boot information in my XP partition. First, when I boot my computer into Windows, I get a screen that loads asking me to boot into Windows or Legacy Windows (XP). I would like to remove this screen. Going into XP's boot.ini file reveals this...

;Warning: Boot.ini is used on Windows XP and earlier operating systems.

;Warning: Use BCDEDIT.exe to modify Windows Vista boot options.

[boot loader]

timeout=30

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /FASTDETECT /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN

I searched for BCDEDIT.exe on my machine and cannot find it. The partition that had Vista has already been wiped. Does anybody know how I can get my computer booting like it did pre Vista install?

Thanks,

Mike

I'm sure there is a way to do it, but I spent a few days trying to completey wipe an expired beta of Vista from my PC only to eventually refomat the drive and start over. I tried just about everything I could think of, including wiping the MBR and restoring it with XP repair console to no avail. It was a pain to get dual boot working and seemingly impossible to put it back. Vista is a bloated ugly bugger - worst OS MS has released since Win ME (if you want to call that an OS :) IMHO.

You could try to fix your MainBootsector on your 1. HDD.This is where the Bootloader is installed.

Insert your Win Xp cd boot it and go to the repair mode.

If you got in there you must write fixmbr in the line and press enter.After that procedure you shouldnt have any Vista XP Bootscreen anymore.
