Just to let people know, and I don't know if this is already known, but I can get my Linksys WMP54G v4.0 working in 10.5.2 but only in short bursts and only in a weird way. Details/steps below.

Installed Kallaway 10.5.2 last night on my Dell XPS 420 w/ all the wireless options checked. Booted up, no network as expected.

Then I found these drivers, http://forum.infinitemac.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=1145, and installed them. (WMP54G uses the RT2500 chipset which uses the RT2560 as the BB/MAC chip, whatever that means.) Still got nothing, but I checked my system log and noticed I was connecting to my neighbors unprotected wi-fi and then quickly dropping. So then I plugged in my flash drive in the USB port to copy my system log to and volia, my connection was working! Not for a few seconds but for at least a few minutes. At one point I even had System Update going and even got one of them downloaded and installed. So then I eject the flash drive and volia the connection is up again, but this time much shorter like 10-20 seconds. I've been getting this on a fairly consistent basis. Somtimes though my mouse acts like it won't respond, but it seems like the computer is only polling every 5 seconds or something so I have to reboot with the power switch. Below is a dump from the last reboot, look near the end to see the 5 or so minutes of uptime. You can also just do a search for CardBusWirelessDriver and also RT2560.

From here I don't really know what to do in order to keep the link active. Any thoughts or suggestions? I'll post back here if it ever works for good along with the steps that kept it going. BTW, Sytem Profiler doesn't show anything in the PCI slot, as expected, but the Network program in the Utilities folder of Applications picked up my card's mac address AFTER the driver install.

  • 1 month later...

*bump + update*

The card is still doing the same thing where it's online for a few minutes then drops out and comes back again. Then sometimes it'll work for an hour or so. Also, plugging the USB flash drive in and out seems to have little effect any more so that might have just been a coincidence.

  • 1 year later...

Hello, the forums won't allow me to start my own topic yet, so this is probably the closest thread to my topic (sort of). I am trying to find information about using WMP54G v4.0 in Snow Leopard 10.6.3.

I was excited to find this thread, thinking perhaps the driver might also work for Snow Leopard, but alas, the link in the first post is dead.

This card uses the Ralink RT2500 chipset, so I went on the Ralink website to look for Mac drivers for this chipset. Closest thing I could find on that site was driver for USB(RT257X/RT2671/RT2500). I tried this one, but it didn't work. From this thread, I see that wretched wrote "uses the RT2560 as the BB/MAC chip, whatever that means", so I am going to try PCI/mPCI/CB(RT256x/RT266x) from the Ralink website to see if maybe it will work (since it has RT256x in the title). I'll post whether or not it works.

If anyone has got WMP54G v4.0 working and knows where I can get the proper driver and the proper setup procedure, please let me know.

..UPDATE..

That one didn't work either. The Ralink utility shows "No device", System Profiler doesn't show any PCI Cards listed, and under Network only my modem and ethernet are listed.

I am new to this, so perhaps I am missing a step where I need to identify the device, rather than just install the driver for it? If that's the case, could someone point me in the right direction for how this is done? Otherwise, I'm guessing that I just don't have the right driver. Clearly there is one out there, I just don't know where I can acquire it from.
