I've tried to search but haven't found a solution... most people seem to complain about loud fans, but for me its the opposite.

I used the Kalyway 1.5.2 install disc and the fan was running very low and it was overheating all the time (,dying at 75C) , but somehow I've managed to get it installed when I had the laptop by the window.

Then I installed 15.3. comboupdate, and chose the modbin kernel. After reboot the fan died totally, same thing with the vanilla kernel.

So now I'm totally stuck, I've also tried to move those thermal kexts mentioned in other threads to another folder but it hasn't made any difference.

Any ideas? Or is it a dead end?

Btw, it's a Zepto 3215 (compal fl91), Intel 965PM + ICH8-M chipsets.

Yepp, I solved it.

And Zepto and Compal sucks ass. Been trying to contact Zepto since november about heat issues on other OSes too but they just keep ignoring me and kicking me out from their live support. I havent been rude or anything they just dont want to answer what the issue is and ignores me. So last time I buy anything from them.

The thing seems to be that the computer was incompatible with that CPU.

The BIOS doesnt seem to have the right microcode for T5250. Maybe thats the same in your case.

The CPU was running with a too high vcore in other OSes too. Aprox 1,2250-1,3, intel specs are 1.075V-1.175V !!! Sent a mail to Compal about that vcore thing too, no answer from them either. But it wouldnt be too hard from them to make a compatible BIOS update.

In ubuntu I undervolted it to about 0,75 and it was rockstable. With stock vcore it was overheating in within 25minutes after a cold boot and while running cpuburn.

But anyway replaced the cpu with a T7300 and all my heatproblemes were gone. It still runs quite hot but it doesnt turn off at 85C (not 75C like I wrote above). It tops at 89C but never goes over that. The fan now turns on earlier in other OSes and works like it should too, even in OSX.
