razerbug
Hi all, first time here... Hardcore Windows fan who's finally conceded that for his chosen career (VFX) I need to learn some Mac only tools like Shake and Motion. That said I have a pretty impressive 4 core PC with 2 gig of ram and a nice nVidea graphics card... so I would love to be able to turn that power into a powerful Mac. After having several issues with setting up an extra HD to run OS from, and trying and failing about a dozen install attempts I finally the other day got iAtkos installed and working (see below) it booted after install from the DVD and worked - even saw my internet connection etc. alas after I closed down for the evening it now won't boot from the DVD (goes into installer instead) and although windows bootloader (made with EasyBCD) lists the OSx and boots it - every time it boots up it tells me to reboot. If I do this it makes no difference. Fullsize error message on the advice of a Mac fan friend of mine I used the Disk Utility to repair the install but this hasn't helped and says everything is fine. HELP!? It's taken months and I seem to encounter one error after another! my heart lifted when OSx booted and all seemed well - now I'm stuck again Thanks! PS: if there is any way I can fix this without having to reinstall please tell me because every other install I've done hasn't worked at all! razerbug
will do and I'll post the resulting messages - (not on the same PC now) but interestingly I had to type -v -legacy to run the installer properly - otherwise it freezes as certain points, could this be a factor? I didn't know this when I first started trying to hack-the-tosh but my new job in movie land includes doing alot of work from linux comand line so I picked a few things up that helped. I'll post up the diagnostic text I get doing a -v flag, although I have tried to boot the OSx by typing -v and -v -legacy and it stops after the kernal text (IE dosn't start OSx) thanks for your help I'll get back to you! vaporATX
Posting you exact hardware specs and install method would be a good idea. Most people who could actaully help you just ignore posts like this. Plus, this is posted in the wrong forum. hem
I had similar kind of issues when i began to install Iatkos . after 2-3 months now i am familiar to it . i have done several reinstalls and erases . what i do now to install is insert the DVD > F8 > then -v and enter sometimes it wont read from DVD . i have to keep eye on DVD reader if the LED is blinking otherwise i repeat the stuff. Finally i install Iatkos V1.0 with AppleCPU thermal kext checked and AppleACPIplatform kext checked in Customise option of Iatkos install. Before all this i erase a partition ( mostly second partition ) and install darwin boot in it. installation completes. remove DVD and boot . if it boots fine no probs if it doesn't reboot and press F8 then -v to see where the problem is . I usually get the booting stuck at line similar to AppleACPIPlatform.kext has immediate dependancy something . i keep rebootin until this locked up at boot problem goes.. after sme reboots kernel gets the Boot device and it successfully boots. . razerbug
well as I have got it working once, I felt it was post install. My system is an Packard Bell iExtream 2711 Intel Quad core core2duo CPU Windows Vista Home Premium nVidia GeForce 8500GT San Fransisco 2 mother board 2Gig of DDR2 ram first HDD is a sata drive which the installer can't see (which is good cause it can't touch my windows installation) second is IDE 111GB it's connected as the primary master IDE connection with a DVD drive connected as the Primary Slave. the boot order favors the SATA drive. Just tried a re-install and now it boots and sits at the OS loading screen for a lot longer but still pops up the black box saying I need to re-start... I'll do the -v and see where it stops: last line is: localhost mds[20]: (/ .Spotlight-V100/Store-V1/Stores/37E133ED-E60C-4D1A-A4D9-150B99B41EB4)(Error) IndexC1 in ContentIndexOpenBulk:No Index I When I launch the installer from the DVD I have to type -v -legacy for it to work so I'll try that and see what error that gives me: error found an operation already on Bus90 timing out! In fear that this is because I had restarted too soon I rebooted and did this again - this time it simple restarted the machine... because this happened right before it worked fine the one and only time it has, I let it reboot OS, but no joy... So near yet so far! I hope this helps one of you legends out there cause me and my girlfriend have exhausted any options we have and just about worn a hole in Google Thanks guys. (PS if this is in the wrong section and you think it'll get more attention else where Mod's then please feel free to move it. cheers) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/112267-its-taken-months-and-i-got-it-working-once-help/#findComment-795665 Share on other sites
razerbug
GOOD NEWS! I'm now replying from my very own Hackintosh! So yeah, one working (just) Hackingtosh... now i'm off to find drivers and things, wish me luck. Thanks to those who helped. update: got it working but had no drivers for graphics cards so was ugly and slow... had to restart for network to be detected, and although it did eventually boot up again it took 16 odd attempts, all due to kernel panics. got back into it and online (to post the above) but didn't understand a word of the tips on here to get the graphics card working and again another reboot meant I again faced the prospect of rebooting untill it decided to work. back to the drawing board. Does no one know how to get around the "you need to reboot" error? razerbug
Incase any pour sap like me was having this problem: I've now managed to get a full working hackintosh booting along side Windows on a second HD I gave up on iAtkos all together and tried Kalyway. unchecked all additional options at install then chose network/audio/and nVidia drivers, and the AMD boot with -legacy flag turned on (this works on Intel machines that need to boot with this flag too) I chose the first kernal on the list, which supports the the wides range of chipsets unlike the default apple kernal which was causing me all the problems. It now works absolutly fine and was recognised by the vista bootloader on the old OSx boot command I made before using EasyBCD all thats left now is to get the internet working because despite it saying Ethernet is connected and working it keeps assigning itself a nonsense IP address in the middle of surfing the net (which disconnects you...) we plow on. jivhg
The Problem ultimately was your kernel. YOu needed to re-install your kernel... razerbug
Yes, ultimatly the vanilla/apple kernel didn't like my hardware, possibly the 4 cores or something... the problem now is that the internet lets me surf for a minuet or so then randomly assigns itself a new IP address and stops working. I also found I can't shut down properly if I've got a drive plugged in that I havn't ejected... but I don't know if this is a problem with Macs in general or OSx86. I love the irony that all of this, and working on linux/Mac at work is proving that the most stable OS at the moment is Vista Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/112267-its-taken-months-and-i-got-it-working-once-help/#findComment-806912 Share on other sites
