JustinTD
Ok, I am still learning, and as such need someone to kinda hold my hand here as it were. I would like to do the 10.5.3 update on my system, can anyone walk me through it? I followed the netkas guide and it trashed my kexts which I need for video, audio, sata. So, below are the system specs: 1) CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2) MoBo - Foxcon Mars; P35A chipset, ALC888 audio, ICH9R SATA, JMB361 external SATA) 3) Video - eVGA 8800GTS PCIe 320MB I am using Leo4All v2 10.5.2 right now So, what I need help with is how to go about backing up the kexts (and which ones to backup), what I need to do to do the update, how to replace the new kexts with the ones to make my sound/video/sata work BEFORE i need to reboot. I have no clue how to readd a kext and what not, don't even have any idea which ones I need to hold onto. Please help this n00b. Gujal
If you have no clue about backing up kexts, dont follow netkas guide. Get Kalyway or JaS 10.5.3 update which is a single click install designed for n00bs. JustinTD
Granted, but I would also liek to learn how to do this so the instructions would be great if someone has the time.and the kalyway update killed it .. god damnitI followed teh directions to the letter, it gets to the BSD Root and ATADRiver area, finds the hard disk, and then just hangs there ... no error nothing ... marliwahoo
Easy way to back up kexts - hold down option key and drag system/library/extensions to your desktop -rename it backup extensions. (option key drag and drop always copies - not moves - files/folders) Drag folder to HD. JustinTD
ok, but do i want to backup the whole directory or just the certain files? and when i copy them back, how do i do that? same method in reverse? and which ones do i need to copy back ... you can see where a n00b like yself can get confiused. I am reinstalling w/leo4all v2 and i am gonna give the Mysticus C update a whirl and see how it does, i'll let ya'll know. Well this is just f*cked up, the leo install has died twice on me saying files were missing, same disk i installed form the first tiome... i am getting really pissed now Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/112251-n00b-needs-help-so-experts-please-chime-in/#findComment-795309 Share on other sites
marliwahoo
ok, but do i want to backup the whole directory or just the certain files? Your choice. If you back up everything you have everything. and when i copy them back, how do i do that? same method in reverse? and which ones do i need to copy back ... you can see where a n00b like yself can get confiused. No, replace just the files needed with kext helper. I am reinstalling w/leo4all v2 and i am gonna give the Mysticus C update a whirl and see how it does, i'll let ya'll know.Well this is just f*cked up, the leo install has died twice on me saying files were missing, same disk i installed form the first tiome... i am getting really pissed now It's just a computer - relax. Try here: http://netkas.org/?p=50 Or .... you can just skip the update - it's not that big a deal.
