Everything runs smoothly until it asks me where i wish to install OS X ..

My partitions (e.g C drive) aren't there? i am confused as to what the problem is ..

The partitions are NTFS ..

Please, any advice anyone?

Thanks millions in advance!

Before you install OS X, you need to make a 8 G FAT32 partition for it (system will take up 6 G).

You can do it in XP with Partition manager.

Be sure to change the ID of your newly made partition to AF, otherwise the OS X installer will not find it.

That's how I solve the same problem with my own SATA HDD.

The installer can find my IDE HDD without any problems. I don't know why your IDE HDD cannot be found, but you can try the following:

1. Go to BIOS, check if there is any option for you IDE driver, try to play with the option and sometimes it works.

OR

2. Modify your 20gb empty FAT 32 patition ID to AF, this is for NFS. For FAT 32, it should be 0B. You can google for the Partition manager.

For me, after changing the ID to AF, the installer can find the empty partition. I recommend you try the 2nd.

This is sounding more and more like OSX isn't seeing you hard disks at all which could be a controller driver problem. Go into your BIOS and try the following:

1, if there is a setting for hard disk "legacy" mode, try enabling it.

2, if that doesn't work, see if there is a setting for hard disk "ACHI" mode.

3, if that doesn't work, try putting an external hard drive on the system and see if the install finds that.

Thankyou for your reply, unfortunately my BIOS doesnt have any of them options and i dont have the money to buy a External HDD ..

I might look on ebay for a bargain xD

  • 4 months later...

Has anyone gotten OSX86 to detect the SATA drive at all on this laptop? I too have a Compaq v6500z and cannot install any version of OSX. Boots up with the CD. Choose Disk Utility and no drive can be found. The BIOS on these drives really give you absolutely no options that can be changed short of the boot priority.

Well you were half right.

Leo4Allv4.1 was the first one to pickup my SATA in disk utility. However I cannot erase, partition..etc. It looks like its working, says "Partitioning drive" then then screen complete screws up with horizontal bars and colors and is frozen.

Actually it does it after sitting on "Creating partition map."

Do I have to use disk utility to install or can I just format the drive HFS+ with gparted and then have the drive show up as installable to without using disk utility?
