Hi guys, ive just installed 10.5.2 Kalaway on my old intel based HP Pavillion dv5000. Installation seemed to go without a hitch, i had partitioned a space in my XP installtion with Partition Magic, loaded up, installed and everything was going smoothly for once. Upon installation restart my Xp partition complains of not having hal.dll...which i believe is the chain0 boot error. My question is, is there a way to go about fixing this problem without reinstallation? I only have recovery cd's for the HP as it was all preinstalled, is there a way to boot up the OSX partition through a certain bootloader? had a bit of a search, but most results insisted on the use of the preinstalled Acronis or XP Boot Cd's to run command scripts, which i dont have. If anyone has any idea on what i should do it would be greatly appreciated. :o

Well i decided to chuck in my HP Recovery CD to see if that will repair the permissions. I dunno what will become of the Mac Partition or my XP, i started it before work. Is there any other method i can try if this doesnt work. Suggestion of a boot cd partition loader or sumthing?

GRUB boot cd huh...that was the kind of answer i was looking for, never used it before, i shall have a google and search around for it. Thanks for the replyi spose i could use that to fix the chain0 error im assuming? If all else fails i spose ill reinstall both, i wanna tread lightly as i wanna keep my legit HP install in stact, im assuming the repair i run is gonna format the XP, it was a clean install anyway so no data lost. Might be a good idea to check the mac partition to see if it works first! Cheers. Will post results

Well im happy to report that i can now boot into leopard...works without a hitch, sound, usb, graphics, cpu all running on vanilla without any effort at all (wireless card not supported, hasnt been ever unfortuantly..stupid intel 3945...). But now ive hit a snag. I hate how long it takes to load up acronis, which was working well to boot both windows xp and mac os x. I removed it and then set my main boot as Mac OSX and it would then show up the darwin bootloader. I edited the boot.ini as read on the x 86, and now after restarting im still gettin the hal.dll error. is there anyway of fixing this thru mac osx or do i have to reinstall yet again!

I'm fairly certain you won't have to reinstall...

I think it may be a problem with boot.ini, but its been a while since ive had that error or even used xp for that matter :D... wish someone more knowledgeable would post :)

Decided id just reinstall it, after the lack of replies on here (which seem to happen to every topic i post, must be my noob status or sumthing), i decided to just reinstall both XP and Leopard, and set up Acronis OS Selector properly. So now its all working fine (bar my wireless, really wish a solution for that 3945 abg intel wireless would come up soon!! Using a usb wireless stick for now for leopard). I believe there must be a way to fix the boot.ini, i reinstalled and tried to fix the boot.ini but i ended up with the same error.i couldnt boot into eithier OS, not entirely tech savvy enough to try and get into the command prompt and play with that. happy with how it is though, vanilla kernel (althogh still scared to update to 10.5.3 thru apple update :s ), just gotta get some good icons into acronis and fix my dual screen for my Nvidia GeForce Go 7400? no idea why its not working. If anyone has a solution for the dual screen problem feel free to post! Thanks to all that replied!
