Anyway, I'm typing this from my Leo4all V3 install of 10.5.2. I started earlier today and I've got just about everything working great. First, some system specs:

ASRock 4coreDual-Sata2 (VIA)

Pentium 4 2.8ghz (prescott, not oc'd)

2gb DDR2800 Adata RAM (running at 667, max for mobo)

BFGTech 7950GTOC 256mb PCIe (running at 4x mode, mobo supported only)

Maxtor 160gb IDE

SBLive Audigy2 PCI (onboard audio is ALC888 HD Audio)

NEC DVDRW 3520a IDE

Zonet Firewire/USB2 adapter PCI

Macally PHR-100AC external HD enclosure (running via Firewire)

MS Explorer 3.0 optical Mouse (USB)

Dell Keyboard (USB)

I used Leo4all V3 and followed the simple instructions. The first install went smooth, booted into OSX and it seemed fine. I knew I probably couldn't get my Sblive working, so I enabled my onboard ALC888 audio and chose the ALC888 codec driver during the install. I also chose NVInject 0.2.1. However I got no audio at all, but my network worked great. No loss of speeds or anything, I just chose the Cable Modem method when it asked me to choose how I connect to the internet.

My biggest hurdle was graphics. I was stuck in 1024x768 with no CI/CE and no way to change resolution. I uinstalled NVIDA defaults using the ./RemoveVideo command as it says on the Leo4all wiki. I tried fussing around with some other drivers but that hosed the system. I did a complete reinstall, and this time chose the AC97 codec for Audio, NVInject 0.2.1. I got audio working thankfully, but still the same graphics problems. I couldn't find any kext files or anything, so for the next couple of hours I searched around and someone said that installing NVInstallerV.41.pkg worked for them. So I did that. I didn't uninstall NVInject, I just ran the installer and chose the appropriate options. Rebooted and WIN! 1680x1050 (native res for my monitor), and CI/CE are supported. It even knows what monitor I have. Now I have everything seemingly working great. I love the neat little effects when you minimize. And I love playing with Expose, I keep hitting F11 just for the hell of it :)

Sound works fine to it seems, I have no problem playing movies or mp3 files. Is there an EQ for the sound though in OSX? In XP I always adjust the bass/treble levels but cant find a way to do that on OSX if it even exists.

My Macally external HD works great. Its formatted in NTFS, but I can read all files just fine. I had no trouble whatsoever getting it working in OSX. I just turned it on and OSX mounted it.

So now everything seems smooth. My only complaints are little things, I have to get used to using OSX. Some of the shortcuts I've used for 15 years with windows aren't translating to well on OSX (I keep using ctrl-c to copy but that doesnt work). I might just have to get an Apple keyboard. Also, I have to find out a way to setup the 2 side buttons on my mouse as forward/backwards buttons in Firefox/Safari.

Also, fonts look weird to me. They look like {censored} in Firefox, and I dont like the way they look overall. What is the best font and setting for using in Firefox. In OSX itself, the fonts look kinda tall to me. I'll have to look around and see how I can change it. I doubt its my Font Smoothing method (selected as LCD), its the fonts themselves.

Anyway so far so good. I'm really having fun playing with OSX. First time I've ever been in an Apple OS since highschool in the mid 90's. I'm going to attempt a update with 10.5.3 just to see if I can work it. Right now, OSX is on its own HD. Im not dual booting yet, I might do that tomorrow. Only thing is that I wish I could use my Audigy2 instead of onboard.

Hi and welcome to the wonderful world of OSX86.. we all remember the first time we saw the welcome screen after a successful install. A feeling quite unlike any other :)

From your screenshot, the fonts look just about right. If you read around you'll find the OS X renders fonts differently from Windows or whichever OS you are used to. So yeah it will take some gtting used to. But as the old adage goes "once you go mac, you don't go back" :)

Cheers

Tim

PS you might wanna try the equalizer in iTunes (if that's what you use for your music).

hi, :D

How did you manage to install it?

I downloaded copy from btjunkie.org (leopard 10.5.2) and followed instruction from this site http://osx86.thefreesuite.com/leo_amd.php

but with no luck at all. I can't sleep :D I'm nervous :( ....

Anyone can Help please.

When I insrt DVD and boot the OS from it everything is ok but when I need to select partition where I want to

put my new OS I can't. Then I open disk utility and select partition that I created as guy from mentioned site said.

What's next I don't have "FORMAT" all I have erase and that's not working.

Any suggestions?

thanks

Daniel

Just use Command as you did ctrl in windows when copyying and so on.

For your mouse I suggest you download usb overdrive. It's a great preference pane that allows you to set what ever commands you like for your mouse buttons ;)

"PS you might wanna try the equalizer in iTunes (if that's what you use for your music)."

Yeah I figured. I'd just want to listen to music and the movies, so I guess I'll have to adjust eq seperately instead of globally. No biggie.

"Just use Command as you did ctrl in windows when copyying and so on."

Yeah, I figured that later after posting. Still takes some getting used to but I'm catching on. However is there anyway without using USB Overdrive that I can at least use my foward/back buttons to control firefox in OSX? Or can that only be done via USB Overdrive? Any freeware alternatives?

"How did you manage to install it?"

I followed the directions exactly as they appeared on the Leo4all site. Also, my 160gb HD which OSX is dedicated to was completely clean and unformatted (I zeroed it months before using Darik's Nuke and Boot). Dont know why you're having trouble but the partitioning worked fine for me. The guide you're using above seems a tad complicated, I didnt have to mess around with the terminal at all when I installed Leopard (aside from uninstalling previous Nvidia drivers when the failed after the initial boot procedure). Try following the guide on the official Leo4all site and follow them exactly.

Congrats on your successful install. Yeah, it gave some funny feeling when I first see welcome screen after dvd install. I got mine "work" first time, ie it had network, usb and video using iAtkos v2. Then I patched natit and applehda to get video card and sound to work. Initially at the install I had linksys wmp54g v4.1 which didn't work, so last night I replaced it with wmp54gs v1.1 which should work, but does not. Tinkered around a bit last night I gave up. So I'm going reinstall on another spare drive and see what happens.

I tried using USB Overdrive but it dint work for me. When I set the buttons to forward/back in Firefox it just wouldn't work. I'd press the button, the cursor would disappear for a second then come back. However I just finished installing the MS Intellipoint software and I get forward/back functionality now in both Firefox and in OSX in general.

Well now I have both drives hooked up, my XP drive and my OSX drive. However when I boot from my master drive, it loads XP. I have to switch the boot order in BIOS in order to boot off this drive. No biggie, since I have to enable my onboard audio in BIOS anyway to use audio in OSX.

I've been playing with iTunes and while my EQ settings are ok to me, I really wish Izotope Ozone DSP plugin was supported. The makers refuse to make an Itunes version (love it on Winamp) and its been a long time. Anyone know of any good *free* DSP plugins for iTunes?

Some updates:

OSX seems to be running great since I've installed it. I'm using it more and more as my primary OS. If I didnt game, I'd use it as my only OS. I havent had much big issues. One major annoying thing is icon sorting. I wish it would automatically sort by name across all folders. And I'd rather have folders listed first before single files in a directory.
