Hey there guys,

Updated to 10.5.3 and have noticed my laptop has been running quite hot. Temp monitor shows both cores at about 63 degrees celcius.

I deleted the Apple Thermal kext but it hasn't helped at all. Anyone have any idea what I can do to lower the temperatures? I'm fairly sure they're not this high in Windows.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Just so you know, it's an Intel Core Duo T2300 processor.

Hey, I had the same thing start with 10.5.3, up until then my cpu was always within a reasonable range.

Something changed with 10.5.3 and I couldn't find out what. So in searching for other alternatives, I came across coolbook, which can throttle/undervolt on some hacks. Works perfectly on my compaq.

My temps were shooting through the roof with 10.5.3, upwards of 70C idling with the fan going full blast, after setting up undervolting with coolbook (btw, it throttles/undervolts on vanilla kernel perfectly) I idle around 46C or less.

www.coolbook.se you can get a demo but throttling/undervolting is only available once you register.

However, you should be able to see if throttling/undervolting will work for your notebook under the shareware version because if it can throttle/undervolt it will show you a list of available settings when you start the app up.

Its only 10 bucks and IMHO, well worth the 10 bucks.

P.S I have nothing to gain from coolbook, it's just that it works on hacks where other attempts at throttling (my own included) didn't exploit undervolting which is where the greatest heat reduction can be achieved.

Paulicat.

I second that. I bought coolbook, and is working very good here. I get a bit more temperature than with the speedstep package (about 5º more, idle around 50º now), but I can use the stock kernels. One only thing: it doesnt work with the stock SMBIOS.kext on my system. Only with one someone shared here in the forum, but I have still to experiment more...

Thanx for the suggestion!
