I had my system working fine, then my drive failed. Now I'm trying to get back into the install to restore to a different hard drive. I boot with -x -v, and get to the point where the screen flashes and the font changes, then I get endless scrolling on my screen (pic attached). I can't make out what it says really... just a few words:

"SAM Multimedia: READ or WRITE failed",

"SENSE_KEY = ",

"MountPt /",

"Path /usr/lib/dyld" (or something like that)

There seems to be a lot more to it, but those are the only words I can make out.

Any ideas? I've tried 3 hard drives, so odds are it's not a bad drive, although all 3 are used... Also tried 2 copies of the install disk.

Try a brand new blank DVD+R.

And burn at the slowest speed you could.

Its getting an error trying to read the dvd.

The disk is probably damaged.

Unfortunately I think it's more than the DVD itself. I think the Motherboard has gone bad. I went ahead and installed windows and had all kinds of problems trying to access the DVD-ROM consistently during and after install. Also had trouble seeing the hard disks in some SATA ports.

It's possible the drive itself is bad - which I will test tonight - but I'm worried what I thought was a hard drive failure, was actually the board going out. I never had any issues with the DVD-ROM prior to my "hard drive" dying. I guess I'll find out tonight when I swap out the DVD-ROM.
