esmith1977
What commands do you use at the boot prompt to designate the kernel that you want to use? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/109372-booting-from-other-kernels/ Share on other sites
sg
once you're at the prompt, you just type in the full name of the kernel. just make sure the kernel located in your root (/) and has proper permissions (chmod 755 and chown root:wheel). so if the kernel is called 'mach_kernel_test' you'd just type : mach_kernel_test Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/109372-booting-from-other-kernels/#findComment-775108 Share on other sites
savagex
how do you permanently make it boot in the particular kernel chosen? I have an issue that my Ipod touch is not detected in the sleep kernel - however detects fine with the vanilla kernel. Trouble is I have to keep typing vanillakernel at the F8 prompt to take effect. Do you have any ideas how to permanantly make it a vanillakernel without a rebuild?? Any help gratefully received! cheers.
