Dontocsata Posted June 6, 2008 Share Posted June 6, 2008 Kalyway 10.5.2 Leopard installed perfectly on my Toshiba Satellite P205 When I boot OSX, the grey screen with an apple appears, then the screen glitches (and i'm fairly certain its running, no crashes). It's either white and black jaggedness or white and blue jaggedness (see attachments). If I boot into safe mode (-x) everything appears fine (no sound though). So this leads me to believe I have some bad graphics kexts. I removed: NV*.* , Natit.kext, and GeFo*.* (basically all non-ATI graphics kexts) I check ATIRadeonX2000.kext and my device ID is listed there... Any ideas? I can't seem to find anything. Is there any significant disadvantage to using OSX in safe mode only? ANY hint in the right direction would be appreciated ! zuz_242 Posted June 11, 2008 Share Posted June 11, 2008 i spoke to lastExile on irc and he is very helpful (thanks alot ) he did some custom driver packages which did not really fix the problem yet but got me a slight glimpse at the desktop. so i´m on my way.. he said something about these garbled screen being caused by the framebuffer not properly found / initialized by driver.. maybe i dont have to switch back to old card .. milae Posted July 18, 2008 Share Posted July 18, 2008 bump, as this is exactly the same problem i have on my toshiba p200 with an ati mobility 2600HD card btw. is it possible to boot in normal mode, but without the *not-working* graphics drivers? as its perfectly possible for me to boot into safeboot -x, .. i could live with the lower resolution, if it was possible to actually use my hackintosh without being in safemode without sound etc.. ? zuz_242 Posted July 19, 2008 Share Posted July 19, 2008 to use the "vesa" mode, you have to remove the specific drivers. in my case the ati**.kext and maybe even natit. without drivers the card is only recognized as standard vga card with a low resoltution and now hw accel. At the Darwin boot loader type for example "Graphics mode"="1680x1050x32" which in my cases gives me 1680x1050 on my 22" LCD 4.
