jayroh
Hi everyone - Please bear with my n00b'ness but I'm having a hell of a time figuring out what I need to do to get things working on all this new hardware I just purchased. For brevity's sake, the hardware I'm using follows: Case/PS: Antec Sonata III (w/500 Watt PS) Motherboard: INTEL D975XBX2 (BadAxe2) CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz RAM: OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) VIDEO: EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800 GT 512MB HD-1: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB DVD-RW: LG DVD Burner & Blu-ray/HD Reader (Model: GGC-H20L) I put everything together immediately after receiving my delivery from Newegg, and downloaded and burned the latest Kalyway 10.5.2 dvd image on a Maxell DVD-R ... thinking I was going to be in business. Unfortunately, after booting up into the newly burned DVD I get to an error about firewire followed by a whole lot of : "still waiting for root device" I've looked all over these forums, among other places, and can't find anything that sheds more light than when I started. Is there anything in the bios I need to change? Is there a newer version of the bios I need to flash the board with? Thanks in advance for all the help! kinkster
Try plugging it into a different sata port, you hard drive. then mess around with bios settings that have to do with your hdd. you could also try safe booting with -x if none of that works. Check this thread - I think my post is #43 http://smallurl.co.uk/?2437 In my system I used the Kalway 10.5.1 install disk and Kalyway 10.5.2 updater. Have not tried to update to 10.5.3 yet. I used a sata hard drive, sata dvd-rw, and usb keyboard and mouse. I think the install dvd wouldn't work with a pata dvd drive (pata drive is supposed to work fine after install) there was some glitch with the chipset. I had to try a few video cards - I had one that acted kind of flakey so if you have trouble installing try not making any selections for the video card. You won't have qe/ci then but you can figure that out later. Follow the directions in the post. Installed well for me but took me two full days of messing with it to find the right settings and get it installed. Now it would be easy. My system works like a champ and I didn't have to touch the terminal once. Good luck! Let me know how it goes. dastrom Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/109197-trouble-installing-kalyway-on-new-badaxe2-d975xbx2/#findComment-774803 Share on other sites
jayroh
Hey guys! First of all, thanks for the replies. Second of all I'm happy to report that everything has worked out with GREAT success. The first issue was definitely because I had my SATA hd plugged into the wrong location. Things were plugged into the secondary SATA controller (the blue ones) instead of SATA0 and SATA1 on the black SATA controllers on the board. That was purely my fault. After reading up more and more on the board I figured out that that secondary (blue) sata controller needed to be disabled. Great - that was all set. (I don't *need* the external SATA port w/the antec case - no big deal). Second (and I'm not even sure this was an issue) I set the HD's to be AHCI instead of IDE. Third issue, after a lot of banging my head against the wall, was to make absolutely sure that I had the partition for the main system drive formatted using MBR instead of GUID. After this - things looked great. I was optimistic. Installing w/Kalyway turned out to be a simple process once I selected the nvinject driver for a 512M video card ... I have an EVGA 8800GT 512M card and it's using the full 1920x1080 resolution on my Dell 24" monitor. Looking *so* great. As an aside - the audio drivers included with the BADAXE2 guide that floats around here are working great. Lastly - the Kalyway 10.5.3 update was installed without fail and I have a 100% brand new 10.5.3 system up and running at home on all of my Newegg-provided hardware. jayroh
caenis - I do have an active network after I upgraded. Things are working ok for me here. Did you upgrade from 10.5.1 to 10.5.2 before you tried the 10.5.3 patch? caenis
acutally no, i used the kalyway 10.5.2 install disc, i used to have the 10.5.1 install disc and it worked, then i did a fresh copy of the 10.5.2 and it worked before the first restart. After that, i have tried and tried reinstalling and nothing.
